Meenambakkam is a southern neighbourhood of Chennai in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is home to Chennai International Airport, the Airports Authority of India regional office, and the DGQA Complex. It was under the reign of the Pallava kingdom. The name Meenambakkam signifies that it is a settlement near the coast. Pakkam means a settlement near to the coast. Meenambakkam was cherished with lakes, ponds and borderlines the Adyar river. This makes it a rich source of fishes. Hence the name Meenambakkam was coined. Alandur
Alandur is a zone of Chennai corporation, and an urban node in Chennai district in Guindy division in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It is Surrounded by Guindy in the North and East, Adambakkam in the South, Pazhavanthangal in the South-West and St Thomas Mount in the North-West. As of 2011, Alandur had a population of 164,430. The town agglomeration of Alandur will have an estimated population of 300,000 by 2030. Meenambakkam Bomb Blast
The Meenambakkam bomb blast was the bomb blast that occurred on August 2, 1984 at Meenambakkam International Airport at Chennai in Tamil Nadu. A total of 33 people were killed and 27 others were injured. Tamil Eelam Army (TEA) was suspected in the bombing and later a few of its members were convicted for it. TEA was formed in 1983 with the intention of securing a Tamil Eelam and had about 1,300 volunteers. After a brief period of intense struggle, Kathiresan and about 130 others had escaped to Tamil Nadu vowing to continue their struggle. The Meenambakkam blast, their first case of subversion, however had occurred by accident. The bombs were placed in a plane bound for Sri Lanka aiming a blast at the airport in Sri Lanka by Kathiresan. Chrompet
Chromepet is a suburban neighbourhood of Chennai, India. Located in the southern Chennai Metropolitan Area, it is governed by the Tambaram Municipal Corporation. Chromepet is located 22 km from the Chennai Central Railway Station, and lies on the Grand Southern Trunk (GST road), close to Thirumudivakkam and Tambaram, and next to Pallavaram. The 200-feet road connects Chromepet with Thoraipakkam. Chromepet is 6 km from Outer Ring Road, Thirumudivakkam, and 4 km south of the Chennai International Airport at Trisulam.
