Medina, originally Young's Corner, is an unincorporated community in the Town of Dale in southwest Outagamie County, Wisconsin, United States. It is located south of the village of Hortonville, west of Appleton, and northwest of Oshkosh. Postal service is provided by the Hortonville post office, ZIP code 54944. History The first settlers in Medina were Zebediah Hyde, Lewis Hyde, and Alva McCrary, and Samuel Young and sons, who arrived in 1848. The town was originally named Young's Corner after one of Samuel Young's sons, William Young. The name was changed to Medina prior to 1851. A post office called Medina was established in 1852, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1966. The community was named after Medina, Ohio. Oshkosh, Wisconsin
Oshkosh is a city in Winnebago County, Wisconsin, of which it is the county seat. The city had a population of 66,816 in 2020, making it the ninth-largest city in Wisconsin. It is also adjacent to the Town of Oshkosh. History Oshkosh was named for Menominee Chief Oshkosh, whose name meant "claw" (cf. Ojibwe ''oshkanzh'', "the claw"). Although the fur trade attracted the first European settlers to the area as early as 1818, it never became a major player in the fur trade. Medina ( ) is a city in and the county seat of Medina County, Ohio, United States. The population was 26,094 at the 2020 Census. It lies about 33 miles (53 km) south of Cleveland and 23 miles (37 km) west of Akron within the Cleveland metropolitan area. History Medina was founded on November 30, 1818, as part of the Connecticut Western Reserve. It was originally named Mecca, but an unincorporated community in Ohio already had that name, so the name was changed. William Young (Wisconsin Politician)
William Young (December 23, 1821 – November 24, 1890) was a member of the Wisconsin State Senate. He represented the 22nd District as a Democrat during the 1868 and 1869 sessions. Life His parents were Samuel Young (1797 – 1870) and Mary Young (''née'' Shangle) (1797 – 1882). He was of German ancestry, descended from the Jungs of New Jersey. Young arrived in Outagamie County, Wisconsin, in April 1848, in what is now Medina, where his cedar-log shanty became a stopping place for travellers going north. He bought land from Zebediah Hyde (one of the earliest white men to settle in the place) and built a large hotel and livery stable. The place was called Youngs' Corner, and grew into the village of Medina after Dale was constituted as a town in 1853. Hortonville, Wisconsin
Hortonville is a village in Outagamie County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. Hortonville is located in the Fox Cities region and the Appleton-Oshkosh-Neenah, WI CSA, the third largest metropolitan area in Wisconsin. History In 1848, a man by the name of Alonzo Horton purchased 1,500 acres from the governor of Wisconsin, now known as the Town of Hortonia and the Village of Hortonville, for only 70 cents per acre. The first thing Horton did was build a cabin; by damming the Black Otter Creek, which created the Black Otter Lake. After laying out a plat for the community by buying land and platting it off in 1849, Horton was swayed westward by the California Gold Rush. He later developed the city of San Diego, California.
