Evan Mecham
Evan Mecham ( ; May 12, 1924 – February 21, 2008) was an American businessman and the 17th governor of Arizona, serving from January 5, 1987, until his impeachment conviction on April 4, 1988. A decorated veteran of World War II, Mecham was a successful automotive dealership owner and occasional newspaper publisher. Periodic runs for political office earned him a reputation as a perennial candidate along with the nickname of "The Harold Stassen of Arizona" before he was elected governor, under the Republican banner. As governor, Mecham was plagued by controversy almost immediately after his inauguration and became the first U.S. governor to simultaneously face removal from office through impeachment, a scheduled recall election, and a felony indictment. Leonidas Ralph Mecham
Leonidas Ralph Mecham (April 23, 1928 – March 9, 2019) was the former Director of the Administrative Office of the United States Courts, having served in that position from 1985 to 2006. He was appointed to the position by United States Chief Justice Warren Burger in July 1985. Biography Ralph Mecham was born April 23, 1928, in Murray, Utah. He obtained his B.S. degree in political science from the University of Utah (1951); a Juris Doctor degree from George Washington University (1963), and a master's degree (in public administration) from Harvard University.Statement of Sen. George Mecham
George Frederick Mecham (14 November 1827 – 17 February 1858) was an Irish naval officer and explorer who participated in the search for Franklin's lost expedition. Life George Frederick Mecham was born in 1827 at Cove of Cork, Ireland. He joined the Royal Navy in 1841 and was promoted to lieutenant on 8 March 1849. As a lieutenant he served from 1850 to 1852 in under Erasmus Ommanney and from 1852 to 1854 in under Henry Kellett, both of whom were searching for the lost expedition of Sir John Franklin. Mecham was the first European to discover Prince Patrick and Eglinton Islands in 1853, both of which he charted in the spring of that year. He was promoted to commander on 21 October 1854 and commanded the paddle sloop on the west coast of Africa from 1855 to 1857, and the paddle sloop in the Pacific from 1857. William Mecham
William Mecham (1853 – 21 August 1902) was a British cartoonist and performer, taking the stage and pen name Tom Merry. He was a professional caricaturist who gave 'Lightning Cartoon' presentations on the music hall stage, and was the first celebrity of any kind to appear in a British film. Cartoonist William Mecham was born in the first quarter of 1853, in the parish of St Saviour, Southwark. Merry was a cartoonist and political satirist, he created the centre spread in colour of ''The St Stephen's Review'', a weekly magazine of political comment published from 1883 to 1892, when it became ''Big Ben'', and closed the following year. Thirty four political lithographs, of statesmen of the era are in the collection of the House of Commons. A number of presentation (signed) copies were also in the personal collection of Winston Churchill, with his father, Lord Randolph Churchill as subject.
