McKinlay, Queensland
McKinlay is an outback town and locality in McKinlay Shire, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of McKinlay had a population of 178 people. Geography McKinlay is in the Gulf Country in the remote north-west of Queensland, north west of the state capital Brisbane and south east of the regional centre of Mount Isa. The town is located slightly north of the centre of the locality. The Landsborough Highway enters the locality from the east (Kynuna), passes through the town along Kirby Street, and exits to the north-west ( Kuridala / Cloncurry). The McKinlay River enters the locality from the south-west ( Selwyn), flows immediately north-west of the town, exiting the locality to the north ( Julia Creek) where it becomes a tributary of the Gilliart River, ultimately becoming a tributary of the Flinders River which flows into the Gulf of Carpentaria. Landsborough Highway
Landsborough Highway is a highway in western Queensland, Australia, running in the northwest–southeast direction from Morven to Cloncurry. The Landsborough Highway runs through vast tracts of land that was once occupied by William Landsborough, an Australian explorer of the 19th century. John Feetham (bishop)
John Oliver Feetham (28 January 1873 – 14 September 1947) was a long-serving Anglican bishop in Australia, who was aligned with the Anglo-Catholic tradition. He was the Anglican Bishop of North Queensland from 1913 until his death in 1947. Early life Feetham was born into an ecclesiastical family, his father was the Reverend William Feetham, Rural Dean of Raglan, Monmouthshire and his mother the daughter of an archdeacon. He was educated at Marlborough College and Trinity Hall, Cambridge. Religious life Feetham was ordained in 1899. After a curacy at St Simon Zelotes, Bethnal Green, he was Principal of the Brotherhood of the Good Shepherd (one of the Australian Bush Brotherhoods). Gilliat River
The Gilliat River is a river in the Gulf Country region of Queensland, Australia. The headwaters of the river are under Mount Edna in the Swords Range, it then flows in a northerly direction and crosses the Landsborough Highway near Hutt Mill and then continues north west. It then forms a series of braided channels as it continues through the mostly uninhabited Gulf Country savannah. The river crosses the Flinders Highway approximately west of Julia Creek.
