Masson (electoral District)
Masson is a provincial electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that elects members to the National Assembly. It includes portions of the city of Mascouche and the La Plaine sector of the city of Terrebonne. It was created for the 1989 election from parts of the Terrebonne and L'Assomption electoral districts. In the change from the 2001 to the 2011 electoral map, it lost Charlemagne and the part of Repentigny it formerly had to the L'Assomption electoral district. In the change from the 2011 to the 2017 electoral map, the riding will lose the La Plaine district of Terrebonne to the new riding of Les Plaines and will gain the part of the Lacheneaie District of Terrebonne east of Montée Dumais from the riding of L'Assomption L'Assomption () is an off-island suburb of Montreal, in southwestern Quebec, Canada on the L'Assomption River. Masson Island or Mission Island is an ice-covered island about long and rising to , lying northwest of Henderson Island within the Shackleton Ice Shelf. Masson Range
The Masson Range is a high broken chain of mountains, consisting primarily of the North Masson, Central Masson and South Masson Ranges and the Trilling Peaks, forming a part of the Framnes Mountains. Having several peaks over , the range extends in a north–south direction for . It was discovered and charted by the British Australian and New Zealand Antarctic Research Expedition, 1929–31, under Douglas Mawson, and named for Professor Sir David Orme Masson, a member of the Advisory Committee for this expedition as well as the Australasian Antarctic Expedition, 1911–14, also under Mawson. The mountains were first visited by an Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions party led by John Béchervaise in 1956. Masson Hall opened in 1897 as the first 'proper' hall of residence for women attending the University of Edinburgh. It was established by the Edinburgh Association for the Education of University Women (EAEUW) at 31 George Square. This site is now part of the University of Edinburgh Library. History In the 1890s, having successfully secured women's rights to receive instruction and graduate from the University of Edinburgh, the EAUW turned its attention to women's welfare while studying. Prior to the establishment of Masson Hall, there had been two other attempts to provide women from outside Edinburgh with accommodation, both named after Mary Crudelius who was the founder of EAEUW. The opening of Masson Hall followed a three-year period of fundraising and campaigning by Miss Houldsworth and Miss Louisa Stevenson who were active members of the EAEUW. The Mountain Winery, formerly the Paul Masson Mountain Winery, is a winery in Saratoga, California, United States, North America. It was founded by Paul Masson, a pioneer of the California wine industry. The winery became famous for its slogan, voiced by Orson Welles in television commercials: "We will sell no wine before its time." The winery is a California Historical Landmark (#733) and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Masson-Angers, Quebec
Masson-Angers is a former municipality and now a sector within the city of Gatineau. It is located on the north shore of the Ottawa River, in Quebec, Canada, approximately northeast of downtown Ottawa, Ontario. According to the Canada 2011 Census, Masson-Angers had a population of 12,397. History The former municipality of Masson was created in 1897, while its neighbouring town, Angers was created in 1915. The area was key for the lumber industry dominated by the MacLaren family in the early 20th century and a large mill was built in Masson near the Du Lièvre River. It was briefly merged with Buckingham in 1975 but later formed a new municipality with Angers which was now called Masson-Angers. On June 27 1978, an F2 tornado swept through the eastern half of Masson causing extensive damage to the town.
