Mary Kennedy
Mary Kennedy ( ga, Máire Ní Chinnéide; born 4 October 1954) is an Irish television personality and former newscaster, and writer. She presented the Eurovision Song Contest 1995 from the Point Theatre in Dublin. She has also presented her own Saturday night chat show called '' Kennedy'', a precursor to '' Saturday Night with Miriam''. Kennedy was co-presenter of the magazine programme '' Open House'' with Marty Whelan. She has previously presented '' Up for the Match'' and the People of the Year Awards. She was co-presenter of '' Nationwide'' with Anne Cassin until 2019, having been so for a time with Michael Ryan. Clondalkin
Clondalkin ( ; ) is a suburban town situated 10 km south-west of Dublin city centre, Ireland, under the administrative jurisdiction of South Dublin. It features an 8th-century round tower that acts as a focal point for the area. Clondalkin forms part of the Dublin Mid-West Dáil constituency. Gráinne Seoige (; born 5 November 1973) is an Irish journalist, news anchor and documentary and entertainment television presenter. A noted Irish language supporter, Seoige is the only television personality to have worked with all four Irish terrestrial television stations—TG4, TV3, RTÉ One and RTÉ2—and to have read the inaugural news bulletins on three separate channels—TG4, TV3, and Sky News Ireland. The Eurovision Song Contest is an annual international song competition, held every year by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) since 1956. ''VIP'' (standing for Very Important Person) is both the title of a magazine and a publishing group owned by the Irish publisher Michael O'Doherty. The VIP group currently consists of three titles (VIP, TV Now, Stellar) and four companies (Minjara Limited ("Minjara"), Vymura Limited ("Vymura"), Barndee Limited ("Barndee") and VIP Publishing Limited). Minjara underwent liquidation in 2014. VIP magazine was launched in 1999, the second of O'Doherty's business ventures with his former business partner John Ryan, whom he subsequently bought out with loans from members of his family. The River Liffey ( Irish: ''An Life'', historically ''An Ruirthe(a)ch'') is a river in eastern Ireland that ultimately flows through the centre of Dublin to its mouth within Dublin Bay. Its major tributaries include the River Dodder, the River Poddle and the River Camac. The river supplies much of Dublin's water and supports a range of recreational activities. The Irish Book Awards are Irish literary awards given annually to books and authors in various categories. In 2018 An Post took over sponsorship of the awards from Bord Gais Energy. It is the only literary award supported by all-Irish bookstores. First awarded in 2006, they grew out of the Hughes & Hughes bookstore's Irish Novel of the Year Prize which was inaugurated in 2003. Since 2007 the Awards have been an independent not-for-profit company funded by sponsorship. The primary sponsor is An Post, the state owned postal service in Ireland. Rose Of Tralee (festival)
The Rose of Tralee International Festival is an international event which is celebrated among Irish communities all over the world. The festival, held annually in the town of Tralee in County Kerry, takes its inspiration from a 19th-century ballad of the same name about a woman called Mary, who because of her beauty was called "The Rose of Tralee". The words of the song are credited to C. (or E.) Mordaunt Spencer and the music to Charles William Glover, but a story circulated in connection with the festival claims that the song was written by William Pembroke Mulchinock, a wealthy Protestant, out of love for Mary O'Connor, a poor Catholic maid in service to his parents.
