Marguerite De Beaumont
Marguerite de Beaumont (b. Liverpool, 13 May 1899, d. Marlborough, 30 July 1989) was a Girl Guide leader, horse breeder, author and poet. She published biographies of Lord and Lady Baden-Powell, and was a recipient of the Silver Fish Award, Girl Guiding’s highest adult honour. Family and personal life Born Marguerite Julia Caroline de Beaumont-Klein, she was the middle child of mother Kathleen Mary O’Hagan and father Louis Charles Leopold Martial de Beaumont-Klein. She was baptised in 1905 at St George's, Bloomsbury. She spent her childhood in Norfolk, moving to Cambridge, where her father was a lecturer at the university, in 1915. The family dropped Klein from their name during WWI. In 1934 she bought Shalbourne Manor in Marlborough, Wiltshire with her partner Doris Mason (1904 –1964). Barton Upon Irwell
Barton upon Irwell (also known as Barton-on-Irwell or Barton) is a suburb of the City of Salford, Greater Manchester, England, with a population of 12,462 in 2014. History Barton Old Hall, a brick-built house degraded to a farmhouse, was the seat of the Barton, Booth and Leigh families. The church of St Catherine, built in stone with an octagonal spire rising to , was consecrated in 1843. The church was demolished in the 1970s due to dry rot and the parish was merged with the neighbouring church of St Michael & All Angels, Peel Green. Governance Within the boundaries of the historic county of Lancashire, Barton-upon-Irwell was a township in the ecclesiastical parish of Eccles in the hundred of Salford. Girlguiding is the operating name of The Guide Association, previously named The Girl Guides Association and is the national guiding organisation of the United Kingdom. It is the UK's largest girl-only youth organisation. Girlguiding is a charitable organisation. Girl Guiding And Girl Scouting
A Girl Guide or Girl Scout is a member of a section of some Guiding organisations who is between the ages of 10 and 14. Age limits are different in each organisation. The term Girl Scout is used in the United States and several East Asian countries. The two terms are used synonymously within this article. Girl Guides are organised into units/troops averaging 15–30 girls under guidance of a team of leaders. Units subdivide into patrols of about six Guides and engage in outdoor and special interest activities. Units may affiliate with national and international organisations. Some units, especially in Europe, have been co-educational since the 1970s, allowing boys and girls to work together as Scouts. There are other programme sections for older and younger girls.
