Mạch Ngọc Trân
Mạch Ngọc Trân (Chữ Hán and ; born 14 October 1973) is a Vietnamese-born Taiwanese politician. Early life and education Mạch's family grew coffee beans, fruits and produce in Vietnam. Mạch was born in Biên Hòa province. She moved to Changhua County and acquired Taiwanese citizenship in 1994 after marrying a Taiwanese national, but later divorced her Taiwanese husband, citing domestic violence. Mạch then attended a master's program at Providence University and worked in Taichung. Career She subsequently worked as a Vietnamese-language translator for the police and other governmental organizations. In 2022, Mạch was appointed the founding chair of the Happy People Party, and, at the time, also led the Taiwan Immigrant Association. In 2023, Mạch accepted a legislative nomination from the Taiwan People's Party, for which she was expelled from the Democratic Progressive Party. The 11th Legislative Yuan is the current term of members of the Legislative Yuan of the Republic of China (Taiwan) which began on 1 February 2024. Members were elected in the 2024 Taiwanese legislative election, 2024 legislative election, in which the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) lost majority status. This is the first time since the election of 2004 Taiwanese legislative election, 2004 that no party received an absolute majority in the Legislative Yuan. 2024 Taiwanese Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in Taiwan on 13 January 2024 to elect members of the Legislative Yuan of the Republic of China, Legislative Yuan. The elections were held alongside 2024 Taiwanese presidential election, presidential elections. The results saw the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) lose its majority in the Legislative Yuan that it had held since 2016 Taiwanese legislative election, 2016, losing 11 seats and retaining 51, while the Kuomintang (KMT) became the largest single party with 52 seats, and the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) won eight seats. The New Power Party lost all its three seats after failing to win a constituency seat or meet the 5% threshold for at-large representation. The election marked the first time under the current electoral system (introduced in 2008) that no party held an absolute majority in the Legislative Yuan, and the first in which the largest party in the legislature won neither the most constituency votes nor the most party votes. ...
