Māris Mihelsons
Prāta Vētra, known internationally as Brainstorm, is a Latvian pop/rock band. The band became popular internationally in 2000 when they finished third in the Eurovision Song Contest 2000 with the song " My Star". History BrainStorm formation and first years (1989–1996) The band was formed in the summer of 1989 in Jelgava, Latvian SSR by four former classmates – Renārs Kaupers, Jānis Jubalts, Gundars Mauševics and Kaspars Roga. Soon after, their classmate Māris Mihelsons also joined the band. It consisted of five 14-year-old guys influenced by Depeche Mode, U2 and R.E.M. In September 1992, Brainstorm released their first single "Jo tu nāc" (Because You Come) and finished 9th in the Latvian popular music contest, the "Microphones" poll. This was followed by their first album, ''Vairāk nekā skaļi'' (More than Loud) 1993. Jelgava
Jelgava () is a state city in central Latvia. It is located about southwest of Riga. It is the largest town in the Semigallia region of Latvia. Jelgava was the capital of the united Duchy of Courland and Semigallia (1578–1795) and was the administrative center of the Courland Governorate (1795–1918). Jelgava is situated on a fertile plain rising only above mean sea level on the right bank of the river Lielupe. At high water, the plain and sometimes the town as well can be flooded. It is a railway center, and is also a host to the Jelgava Air Base. Online (album)
''Online'' is the second English-language international studio album by the Latvian rock band Brainstorm (Latvian band), Brainstorm was released on September 10, 2001 on the Microphone Records. The album was also produced by Tony Mansfield, a former member of New Musik and the record was also made in the United Kingdom. The album was also released in the Latvian version as Kaķēns, kurš atteicās no jūrasskolas" in the same year. The singles including "Online (Brainstorm song), Online", "Maybe (Brainstorm song), Maybe" and Waterfall (Brainstorm song), Waterfall, earned the attention, but not only in Latvia and also in Eastern Europe, Central Europe and Poland where the album was given the certification status as gold. It also sold over between 35,000 copies and later surpassed over 80,000 copies. "Online" was also named as the "Latvian Pop Music Album of the Year" by the Annual Latvian Music Recording Awards. ''Among the Suns'' is the debut English-language studio album by the Latvian pop/rock group Brainstorm, released in May 1999 and reissued in July 2000. It is the English-language version of the Latvian-language album ''Starp divām saulēm'' (1999). The album includes the English versions of "Under My Wing" and "Welcome to My Country". It was recorded in Denmark and Sweden and reached number 13 in the charts in Finland, number 42 in Belgium and number 47 in Sweden. On July 14, 2000 the album was reissued which included the song "My Star" which represented Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2000. Sweden Rock Festival
Sweden Rock Festival is a rock festival outside the town of Sölvesborg in Blekinge in southern Sweden. The festival offers the best possible mix of classic rock, hard rock, metal, blues and related genres. The first version of the festival, known as Sommarfestivalen i Olofström, was held in Olofström in 1992. In 1993 the festival moved to Karlshamn, and changed its name to Karlshamn Rock Festival. In 1998, the festival moved to Norje, although the name Karlshamn Rock Festival was kept. In 1999 the name was changed to the Sweden Rock Festival. When the festival began in 1992, it featured nine relatively unknown bands and it only lasted one day. The next year the festival was expanded to two days and more bands were added to the line-up. From 1993 to 2002 the festival would last two days; over those years it would also begin to feature bigger name acts. Fool's Garden
Fools Garden (known as Fool's Garden until 2003) is a German band formed in 1991 in the city of Pforzheim. The founders of the group and its only permanent members are vocalist Peter Freudenthaler and guitarist Volker Hinkel. In 1993, bassist Thomas Mangold, keyboardist Roland Röhl and drummer Ralf Wochele were invited to join Fool's Garden for the recording of their second studio album, '' Once in a Blue Moon''. The band became famous worldwide in 1995 owing to the release of their third studio album '' Dish of the Day'' and, in particular, the song " Lemon Tree", which entered numerous music charts around the world and topped five of them. However, Fool's Garden was never able to repeat the success of their only hit.
