Müritzeum
The Müritzeum is a visitor centre and nature discovery centre for the Müritz National Park, located on Lake Müritz, near the town of Waren (Müritz), Waren in the north German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The concept of the visitor centre is to have an "enjoyable and interactive science-based approach" to the themes of nature and regional history. The exhibition and aquarium area is devoted to the presentation of the flora and fauna and history of the Mecklenburg Lake District. Its centrepiece is the largest aquarium for native freshwater fish in Germany, with a capacity of 100,000 litres. More than 40 aquatic species may be seen in the 25 aquaria, with almost all of Mecklenburg's native species, including rare crustacea and turtles. Thematic exhibition areas cover the underwater world, birds, forests, the region's history and the moor. Waren (Müritz)
Waren (Müritz) (; also Waren an der Müritz) is a town and Luftkurort, climatic spa in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It was the capital of the former district of Müritz (district), Müritz (''Kreis Müritz'') until the district reform of 2011. It is situated at the northern end of Lake Müritz, approximately 40 kilometres west of Neubrandenburg. Waren is home to the offices of the sub-district (''Amt (country subdivision), Amt'') of Seenlandschaft Waren, although the town itself is independent of any ''Amt''. Müritz National Park
The Müritz National Park () is a national park situated roughly in the middle between Berlin and Rostock, in the south of the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It extends over large portions of the Müritz lakeland in the district of Mecklenburgische Seenplatte. Müritz National Park was founded in 1990. The total area is 318 km2. Near the city of Waren visitors can get information on the national park at the Müritzeum. The beech forests within the national park were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2011 as an extension of the Primeval Beech Forests of Europe site because of their unspoilt nature and testimony to the ecological history of Europe since the Last Glacial Period. The Müritz (; from Slavic languages, Slavic "little sea") is a lake in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, northern Germany.
