Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft
The ''Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft'' (MVG; Munich Transport Company) is a municipally owned company responsible for operating public transport in Munich, Germany. It operates buses, the Munich tramway and the Munich U-Bahn. The company is a subsidiary of Stadtwerke München (Munich City Utilities), and a member of the Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund (MVV; Munich Transport and Tariff Association). Services U-Bahn (Subway) The U-Bahn, alongside the S-Bahn and Regional trains operated by the DB Regio Bayern, is the most important form of public transportation in Munich. In 2022 about 364 million passengers used it, in 2019 before the pandemic it was 615 million. The U-Bahn network has been extended continuously until 2010 with the extension of the U3 to Moosach. The ''Süddeutsche Zeitung'' (; ), published in Munich, Bavaria, is one of the largest and most influential daily newspapers in Germany. MVG Class B
The MVG Class B is an electric multiple unit (EMU) train type operated by the Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft on the Munich U-Bahn system. The prototypes were delivered in 1981, and the full-production units from 1987. A derivative of the Class B, the VAG Class DT2, was in service on the Nuremberg U-Bahn system until 2022. Formation Every Class B train consists of two permanently-coupled cars, forming a twin-unit. The car at the northern end is numbered 6xxx, while the car at the southern end is numbered 7xxx. The trains are equipped with automatic Scharfenberg couplers, enabling operation of up to three units together to form a six-car train.
