The commune is made up of the following collection of villages and hamlets, Losier,Grignon, Le Hamel, La Branle, Rouvrou, La Batonnière, La Davillerie, Les Monts and Ménil-Hubert-sur-Orne. The Commune with another 20 communes shares part of a 2,115 hectare, Natura 2000 conservation area, called the Vallée de l'Orne et ses affluents. The commune has 4 watercourses running through it, with 3 rivers the Orne plus two of its tributaries the Noireau & the Rouvre. The other watercourse is a stream called Ruisseau de la Mare des Bois. Pierre Cally
Pierre Cally (25 September 1630 – 31 December 1709) was a French Catholic Cartesian philosopher and theologian. Life He was born at Ménil-Hubert-sur-Orne near Falaise, now Orne, France. In 1660 he was appointed professor of philosophy and eloquence in the University of Caen, and in 1675, president of the Collège des Arts in the same city. In 1684 he assumed charge of the parish of Saint-Martin. He was an associate of Pierre Daniel Huet, who converted him to Cartesianism, and Jean Renaud de Segrais. Cally died 31 December 1709. Works He wrote a course of philosophy, ''Universæ philosophiæ institutiones'' (Caen, 1695), in which the theories of Descartes are explained and defended. He worked for the conversion of Protestants, and gave conferences in which he endeavoured to solve their difficulties. Rouvre
The Rouvre is a river in Normandy, in the Orne département, a tributary of the river Orne. It is long. The river's source is in the commune of Beauvain, a few kilometres to the east of La Ferté-Macé. After crossing the Pays d'Houlme, it turns in a north-westerly direction to re-enter Norman Switzerland, and then in its last course of passes around Bréel. The Rouvre then joins the Orne between the dam at Saint-Philbert-sur-Orne and Pont-d'Ouilly, and joins the Orne at Rouvrou (elevation ). This last part of its course is through small wooded gorges and its fast waters can make for good kayaking, when the water level permits, and fishing for brown trout. These gorges are home to animal and plant species such as pearl mussels and Osmond Royal (water-fern), and one may occasionally see otters and salmon.
