Mário Dionísio
Mário Dionísio de Assis Monteiro (July 16, 1916, in Lisbon, Portugal – November 17, 1993, in Lisbon, Portugal) was a Portuguese critic, writer, painter, and professor. A multifaceted personality – poet, novelist, essayist, critic, painter – Mário Dionísio had a significant civic and cultural impact on 20th-century Portugal, particularly in the realms of literature and art. Biography Mário Dionísio de Assis Monteiro was born on July 16, 1916, in Lisbon. He was the son of Eurico Monteiro, a merchant and militia officer in the Military Administration, and Julieta Goulart Parreira Monteiro, a homemaker who had completed advanced studies in Piano. He is the father of Eduarda Dionísio. He graduated in Romance Philology in 1940 from the Faculty of Letters at the University of Lisbon. José Cardoso (2October 192526October 1998) was a Portuguese people, Portuguese author of short stories, novels, plays, and political satire. Life and career Early life Pires was born in the Portuguese village of São João do Peso, which is within the district of Castelo Branco District, Castelo Branco near the border of Spain. His father was in the merchant navy and his mother was a homemaker. Pires studied mathematics at the University of Lisbon, where he published his first short story. He left university to join the Portuguese Navy, from which he was later discharged for disciplinary issues. His writing was greatly influenced by the city of Lisbon, the streets of which are described in great detail in his novels and short stories. Alves Redol
António Alves Redol (29December 191129November 1969) was a Portuguese neorealist writer. Life Redol was born in 1911 in Vila Franca de Xira to Antonio Redol da Cruz, a shopkeeper, and Inocência Alves Redol. When he was fifteen, his articles were published in the local weekly newspaper, . After finishing secondary school in 1927, he traveled to Portuguese Angola where he stayed for three years. His stay in Angola influenced Redol's worldview and later literature. In 1936, he married Maria dos Santos Mota. Early work, 1930–1940 Redol published stories in the newspapers and in which he identified with the opposition to the Estado Novo. On 29 November 1936, in his first collaboration with , the short story was published. Kangondo had an African feel. Redol continued to work with the newspapers to publish chronicles and tales about the social issues in Ribatejo. Carlos De Oliveira
Carlos de Oliveira, GOSE (10 August 1921 – 1 July 1981), was a Portuguese poet and novelist. Biography He was born in Belém, Portugal, to a Portuguese family which moved back to Portugal in 1923. They settled in Cantanhede, in the small village of Nossa Senhora das Febres, where his father practiced medicine. In 1933 he moves to Coimbra, where he will stay for 15 years, in order to complete his studies. He graduates from the University of Coimbra in history and philosophy in 1947. The following year he settles definitively in Lisbon. In 1949 he marries Ângela, whom he had met at the university and was from Madeira, who will become his constant companion and collaborator. He died in his home in Lisbon on 1 July 1981.
