Màquina! (also ''Máquina!'') was a Spanish prog rock and psychedelic rock group from Barcelona. It was formed in 1969 and disbanded in 1972. They were pioneers of progressive rock in Catalonia and Spain and their first album ''Why?'' is widely considered one of the most memorable Spanish prog rock albums from the 70s. Overview Máquina has its origins as a backing band called La Companyia, SL for singers and groups of the musical folk association Grup de Folk in 1968, collaborating with Jaume Sisa, Pau Riba, Miniatura and others. Grup de Folk disappeared as an association in 1968. After that, two of its members, Jordi Batiste and Enric Herrera, decided to electrify themselves and swap into rock music in 1969. Carles Benavent
Carles Benavent (born 1 March 1954) is a Catalonia, Catalan flamenco and jazz bass player. Biography Benavent was born in the Poble Sec neighborhood in Barcelona. He started playing the bass when he was thirteen years old, attracted by blues and rock, Jimi Hendrix in particular. A totally self-taught jazz bassist, he founded the group, "Música Urbana" with which he recorded two albums. He came to create a new form of playing the electric bass "Flamenco style", using the pick to create a special type of alzapúa (style of plucking the strings with the finger and pick). His preferred instrument is the fretless bass, which was pretty uncommon at the time, so he can be considered one of the fretless bass pioneers in Flamenco music. Grup De Folk
Grup de Folk was a Catalan folk music musical association formed in 1967 and disbanded in 1968. Formed as an alternative to Els Setze Jutges, it took its inspiration from the American folk music scene at the time and introduced its styles to local audiences to revive the musical tradition of Catalonia. Among its releases were a pair of albums in 1967 and 1968 that served as the basis for many other groups in the Catalan-speaking areas. It was composed of 26 members, but many were only involved in some of its musical projects. Wah-wah (or wa-wa) is an imitative word (or onomatopoeia) for the sound of altering the resonance of musical notes to extend expressiveness, sounding much like a human voice saying the syllable ''wah''. The wah-wah effect is a spectral glide, a "modification of the vowel quality of a tone". ''Ultimate Guitar, Ultimate-Guitar'' opined that the effect is "one of the most original and easily identified guitar effects in the world." Chicago is an American rock band formed in Chicago, Illinois, in 1967. Self-described as a "rock and roll band with horns," their songs often also combine elements of classical music, jazz, R&B, and pop music. Blood, Sweat & Tears (also known as "BS&T") is an American jazz rock music group founded in New York City in 1967, noted for a combination of brass with rock instrumentation. BS&T has gone through numerous iterations with varying personnel and has encompassed a wide range of musical styles. Their sound has merged rock, pop and R&B/soul music with big band jazz. The Hammond organ is an electric organ invented by Laurens Hammond and John M. Hanert, first manufactured in 1935. Multiple models have been produced, most of which use sliding #Drawbars, drawbars to vary sounds. Until 1975, sound was created from rotating a metal tonewheel near an electromagnetic pickup, and Power amplifier, amplifying the electric signal into a speaker enclosure, speaker cabinet. Jaume Sisa (born 1948 in El Poble-sec, Barcelona) is a Catalan singer-songwriter, who defines himself as 'Galactic', and whose greatest hit was ''Qualsevol nit pot sortir el sol'' from his eponymous album, released in 1975.
