''Mànran'' is a 2011 album, the debut LP by Scottish Celtic rock band Mànran. It includes their download single " Latha Math". It won the award for "Album of the Year" at the 2011 Scots Trad Music Awards. Mànran
Mànran are a Scottish people, Scottish band that was established in June 2010. Mànran is a Gaelic word for a melodic sound or a sweet tone. Since 2010 they have performed in over 30 countries worldwide including several international folk & world music festivals, won awards home and abroad and were invited to do a special one-off concert for the 2012 London Olympics. The band embarked on their first trip to America in 2013 which was filmed by BBC ALBA for a one-hour-long documentary. Career 2011: Breakthrough On 17 January 2011 the band released their first single "Latha Math" and were aiming to be the first Gaelic song in the 21st century to make the UK Singles Chart, Top 40. While the band reached 29 mid-week, they slipped out of the top 40 to Number 61 for the official chart on Sunday 23 January 2011. Norrie MacIver
Skipinnish is a traditional Scottish band from the Gàidhealtachd, singing primarily in English. Both the band and brand Skipinnish was created by Angus MacPhail and Andrew Stevenson in 1999 who were both studying at the time at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama ( RSAMD) in Glasgow. Skipinnish brand The Skipinnish brand is used in addition to market whisky, and also in the running of a cèilidh house named the Skipinnish Ceilidh House which has been built in Fort William around the brand. There was previously a Skipinnish Ceilidh House in Oban. Bass (guitar)
The bass guitar (), also known as the electric bass guitar, electric bass, or simply the bass, is the lowest-pitched member of the guitar family. It is similar in appearance and construction to an electric but with a longer neck and scale length. The electric bass guitar most commonly has four strings, though five- and six-stringed models are also built. Since the mid-1950s, the bass guitar has replaced the double bass in popular music due to its lighter weight, smaller size, most models' inclusion of frets for easier intonation, and electromagnetic pickups for amplification. Another reason the bass guitar replaced the double bass is because the double bass is "acoustically imperfect" like the viola. Bagpipes
Bagpipes are a woodwind instrument using enclosed reeds fed from a constant reservoir of air in the form of a bag. The Great Highland bagpipes are well known, but people have played bagpipes for centuries throughout large parts of Europe, Northern Africa, Western Asia, around the Persian Gulf and northern parts of South Asia. Ewen Henderson (musician)
Ewen Henderson (born 1987) is a multi-instrumentalist folk musician from Fort William in Scotland. Musical career Henderson comes from a musical family, with his sisters Megan (of Breabach) and Ingrid and brother Allan (formerly of Blazin' Fiddles) in particular being musicians of renown. He started learning the fiddle at the age of five under the tutelage of Aonghas Grant Snr. Besides fiddle, Ewen regularly performs on bagpipe, penny whistle and piano. He is also fluent in Scottish Gaelic and sings in the language. He has been a member of Battlefield Band (2010–2014), the Pneumatic Drills and Skipinnish but is currently most often found performing with Mànran, the band he helped found in 2010. His Scottish Gaelic singing has been aired on BBC Alba broadcasts. Since 2015, Ewen has also performed regularly with World music pioneers the Afro Celt Sound System. Accordions (from 19th-century German language, German ', from '—"musical chord, concord of sounds") are a family of box-shaped musical instruments of the bellows-driven free reed aerophone type (producing sound as air flows past a Reed (mouthpiece), reed in a frame). Gary Innes
Gary Innes (born 13 December 1980) is a Scottish musician, shinty player, composer and broadcaster from Spean Bridge, Lochaber, Scotland. He is a founding member of Scottish folk-rock band Mànran. Music Innes has had a professional career playing the piano accordion since 2003, and is noted for his distinctive purple accordion. He joined Runrig on stage at their concert ''Beat the Drum'' in Drumnadrochit on 18 August 2007 where he played to an audience of 17,500 and has continued to join the band on Clash of the Ash at many of their open air shows. This included joining Runrig for their farewell concerts at Stirling Castle on 17 and 18 August 2018 to over 50,000 people.
