Milan Puskar
Milan "Mike" Puškar (September 8, 1934 – October 7, 2011) was an American entrepreneur and philanthropist from Morgantown, West Virginia. Biography Puskar was born in Vintondale, Pennsylvania, to ethnic Serbian parents from Kordun. He graduated from Youngstown State University in 1960. In 1961, he and Don Panoz co-founded a pharmaceutical company which became Mylan Inc. Puskar was Mylan's president from 1976 through 2000. In November 1993, aged 58, he became the company's chairman and chief executive officer. He served as CEO until 2002 and as chairman until 2009. Following his retirement as CEO, his successor Robert J. Coury drastically cut employee benefits and blocked Puskar from entering Mylan’s Morgantown facility, and Puskar came to regret putting him in charge of the company. Donald Panoz ( or ; February 13, 1935 – September 11, 2018) was an American entrepreneur who founded two pharmaceutical companies. Early life Panoz was an Italian-American. His father, Eugene Panunzio, immigrated to the United States from Avezzano, Italy in the 1900s. Eugene, who shortened his surname from the original ''Panunzio'' to ''Panoz'', was a champion featherweight boxer. Panoz attended Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg, West Virginia, where he met Nancy, whom he would later marry. The two served in Japan with the United States Army, then moved to Pittsburgh upon their return to the United States. The Upjohn Company was an American pharmaceutical manufacturing firm (est. 1886) in Hastings, Michigan, by Dr. William E. Upjohn, an 1875 graduate of the University of Michigan medical school. The company was originally formed to make ''friable pills'', specifically designed to crush easily, and thus be easier for patients to digest. Upjohn initially marketed the pills to doctors by sending them a wooden plank along with a rival’s pill and one of Upjohn’s, with instructions to try to hammer the pills into the plank.
