Vytautas Barkauskas
Vytautas Barkauskas (25 March 1931 – 25 April 2020) was a Lithuanian composer and Professor of Composition of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. Life and career Barkauskas was born in Kaunas. He studied music at the Vilnius Conservatory with Antanas Račiūnas, a pupil of Nadia Boulanger. He also studied mathematics at the university's pedagogical institution. He achieved a degree in mathematics in 1953 and in composition in 1959. He taught at the conservatory from 1961 to 1974, again as a professor of composition from 1989. Barkauskas was one of the most active avant-garde composers in Lithuania in the 1960s, influenced by Krzysztof Penderecki, Witold Lutosławski and György Ligeti. He moved later towards more intuitively arranged sounds, and writing more chamber music. Ričardas Kabelis
Ričardas Kabelis (born 28 October 1957 in Panevėžys) studied composition with Prof. Julius Juzeliūnas at the Lithuanian Academy of Music, where he subsequently became a doctoral student (1983–87) and received his D.H. for research on dynamics of timbre in the 20th century works for orchestra in 1989. From 1987 to 1990 he was on the faculty of the Academy, teaching instrumentation. Study abroad In 1990 Kabelis went to study electronic and computer music in Germany on a two-year fellowship granted by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The same year he participated in the Darmstadt summer courses for new music, and next year his Invariations for string quartet garnered him a Stille Musik Prize in Boswil, Switzerland. The Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre in Vilnius, Lithuania, is a state-supported College or university school of music, conservatory that trains students in music, theatre, and multimedia arts. History Composer Juozas Naujalis founded a music school in 1919 in Kaunas. This school was reorganised into the Kaunas Conservatory in 1933. In 1949 the ''Kaunas Conservatory'' and the ''Vilnius Conservatory'', founded in 1945, were merged into the ''Lithuanian State Conservatory''. The State Conservatory was renamed the ''Music Academy of Lithuania'' (LMA) in 1992, and in 2004 it became the ''Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre'' (LMTA).
