Mutton Busting
Mutton busting is an event held at rodeos similar to bull riding or bronc riding, in which children ride or race sheep. Description In the event, a sheep is held still, either in a small chute or by an adult handler while a child is placed on top in a riding position. Once the child is seated atop the sheep, the sheep is released and usually starts to run in an attempt to get the child off. Often small prizes or ribbons are given out to the children who can stay on the longest. There are no set rules for mutton busting, no national organization, and most events are organized at the local level. The majority of children participating in the event fall off in less than eight seconds. Age, height and weight restrictions on participants generally prevent injuries to the sheep, and implements such as spurs are banned from use. Miniature Bull Riding
Miniature bull riding is a rodeo sport that involves a youth rider getting on a miniature bull and attempting to stay mounted while the animal attempts to buck off the rider. It is bull riding on a smaller scale, as both the bull and the rider are smaller than in professional rodeo. All competitors are under age 18. Adult bull riding has been called "the most dangerous eight seconds in sports": it requires riders to stay atop a bucking bull for eight seconds with only the use of a rope tied behind the bull's forelegs. Steer Riding
Steer riding is a rodeo youth event that is an introductory form of bull riding for younger riders, usually between the ages of seven and fourteen. Instead of bucking bulls, the children ride Cattle#Terminology, steers that buck. Steers are used because they are known to have a less volatile temperament than bulls (steers are castrated while bulls are intact) and many breeds weigh less than bulls, which makes them a perfect stepping stone to junior bulls.
