Musée Maillol Banyuls-sur-Mer
The Musée Maillol de Banyuls-sur-Mer is a private museum at the farm of the sculptor Aristide Maillol where he spent the last years of his life. The farm, "La Métairie", is situated in the Roume valley 4 km from the city center of Banyuls-sur-Mer in the Pyrénées-Orientales. The museum is operated by the Fondation Dina Vierny, which also operates the Musée Maillol in Paris. Establishment After Maillol's death in 1944, the site was abandoned and deteriorated. Much later, thanks to the combined actions of Maillol's model and muse Dina Vierny and the city of Banyuls-sur-Mer, the rescue and restoration of the farm took place. A small Maillol museum was opened to the public at the end of 1994. Exhibits The museum presents works of Aristide Maillol as well as artifacts from his daily life in La Métairie. Banyuls-sur-Mer (; ) is a Communes of France, commune in the Pyrénées-Orientales Departments of France, department in southern France. Geography Location Banyuls-sur-Mer is located in the canton of La Côte Vermeille and in the arrondissement of Céret. Musée Maillol
The Musée Maillol is an art museum located in the 7th arrondissement at 59–61, rue de Grenelle, Paris, France. History In 1964, Dina Vierny donated Maillol's monumental sculptures to the state. André Malraux, Minister of Culture, installs them in the open air in the Tuileries Garden. The same year, she created her foundation, the aim of which was to make the work of Aristide Maillol known to the public. The museum was established in 1995 by Dina Vierny. On January 20, 1995, the Maillol museum was inaugurated in a mansion in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, the Bouchardon hotel. Its renovation, led by Dina Vierny and the architect Pierre Devinoy, lasted more than fifteen years. On this occasion, he rehabilitated the basement to accommodate the restaurant which had previously been the Cabaret La Fontaine des Quatre-Saisons since 1951, opened by the Les Frères Jacques and Pierre Prévert. Dina Vierny
Dina Vierny (25 January 1919 – 20 January 2009) was a French Model (art), artists' model who became a singer, art dealer, Collection (museum), collector and Curator, museum director. She is known as the model and muse to French sculptor Aristide Maillol. In 1995, she established the Musée Maillol. Biography Born as Dina Aibinder into a Jewish people, Jewish family in Kishinev, Bessarabia (now Chișinău, Moldova), she moved to France with her family during her childhood. Beginning at age 15, she was Aristide Maillol's muse for ten years, until his death in 1944 in a car crash. After two years of modeling while clothed, she began work as a nude model. During her career as a model, she also posed for Henri Matisse, Raoul Dufy, and Pierre Bonnard. Both Matisse and Bonnard attributed a renewed inspiration for painting and sculpture to Vierny. Marly-le-Roi
Marly-le-Roi () is a commune in the Yvelines department in the administrative region of Île-de-France, France. It is located in the western suburbs of Paris, from the centre of Paris.
