Museum Of Contemporary Art, Lima
The Museum of Contemporary Art of Lima (, MAC Lima) is an art museum dedicated to contemporary art located in Barranco District, Lima, Peru. The museum was designed by the Peruvian architect Frederick Cooper Llosa, and built on land donated by the Municipality of Barranco. It is run as a private non-profit organization. History The museum was preceded by the Institute of Contemporary Art (, IAC), which was itself inaugurated in 1955 in the former premises of the ''Galería de Lima'' in the jirón Ocoña. Its inauguration was attended by figures such as José Sabogal, Fernando de Szyszlo and others. It later moved to the Casa Mujica in the Calle Belén in 1966. Between 1969 and 1972, it occupied the premises of the Museum of Italian Art, and in 1981, plans began for a contemporary art museum. Miguel Grau Avenue (Barranco)
Admiral Miguel Grau Avenue (), formerly known as José María Eguren until 1956 and as Mendiburu prior to that, is a major avenue that crosses vertically through central Barranco District in Lima, Peru. It is the district's main commercial route, with a total span of 16 blocks. Overview Part of the district's historic centre, it starts at its intersection with the Panamericana Sur and continues until it reaches Reducto Bridge (located above Armendariz road), which joins Barranco with the district of Miraflores. Since 2019, the avenue runs from north to south from its intersection with the jirón Centenario. Jirón De La Unión
The Jirón de la Unión, or Union Street, is a pedestrian street located in the Historic Centre of Lima, part of the capital of Peru. For many decades it was the most important boulevards of the city, often described as the most aristocratic, where many of the most affluent citizens of the city and most powerful men around the world would meet. Subsequently, with the deterioration of the center of Lima, the Jirón de la Unión lost its aristocratic character and became completely commercialized. Peruvian art has its origin in the Andean civilizations. These civilizations rose in the territory of modern Peru before the arrival of the Spanish. Pre-Columbian art Peru's earliest artwork came from the Cupisnique culture, which was concentrated on the Pacific coast, and the Chavín culture, which was largely north of Lima between the Andean mountain ranges of the Cordillera Negra and the Cordillera Blanca. Decorative work from this era, approximately the 9th century BCE, was symbolic and religious in nature. The La Laguna scandal was a police raid that took place on January 31, 1959 at "La Laguna", a restaurant located in the Lima district of Barranco in Peru. History At around 22:00 on January 30, 1959, a party began at the restaurant, attended by people dressed in suits and others in women's clothing, accompanied by makeup artists, hairstylists, and dancers. There was also a "competition of luxurious costumes, jewelry, and ornaments", as the newspaper La Prensa described it, which Coco Geis would go on to win.
