Luis Gálvez Chipoco Stadium
Luis Gálvez Chipoco Stadium () is a multi-purpose stadium in Barranco District, Barranco, Lima, Peru. It is also, erroneously known as Parque Confraternidad, the name of the public park located there prior to its construction that partially served as the location of Barranco Zoo (), the district's zoo from 1947 until its closure in 1970, when its animals were moved to the Parque de las Leyendas in San Miguel District, Lima, San Miguel. History Park The area where the stadium is currently located, located at the entrance of the district, near its limit with Miraflores District, Lima, Miraflores, was originally a public park known as ''Parque Confraternidad'', inaugurated in 1943 and featuring a lake. Under mayor Eduardo Núñez, who took office in 1956, the grounds for the stadium were used in festivities. Barranco District
Barranco, founded in 1874 as San José de Surco, is one of 43 districts in Lima, Peru. Its current mayor is Jessica Vargas. The district is considered to be the city's most romantic and bohemian, being the home and working place of many of Peru's leading artists, musicians, designers and photographers. In the 19th century, it was a very fashionable beach resort for the Limeño aristocracy, and many people used to spend the summer here and in neighboring Chorrillos. Today, Barranco's beaches are among the most popular within the worldwide surfing community, and a marina completed in 2008 provides state-of-the-art services for its yacht club. Etymology The name ''Barranco'' is Spanish for ravine.
