Murphys Ice Cream
Murphys Ice Cream is a food company based in Dingle, County Kerry, Ireland. It uses the milk of Kerry cattle and serves coffees as well as ice creams and desserts. Seán and Kieran Murphy started Murphys Ice Cream in Dingle in 2000 with the goal of making the "best ice cream in the world". They make a range of usual and unusual flavours, including brown bread and sea salt. Expansions In 2003, Murphys Ice Cream expanded into a new production facility and began supplying local restaurants and shops. In 2005, Murphys Ice Cream opened a second shop on Main Street in Killarney. In 2006, Murphys Ice Cream began using milk from Kerry cattle to support the indigenous breed. Dingle
Dingle ( or ''Daingean Uí Chúis'', meaning "fort of Ó Cúis") is a town in County Kerry in the south-west of Ireland. The only town on the Dingle Peninsula (known in Irish as ''Corca Dhuibhne''), it sits on the Atlantic Ocean, Atlantic coast, about southwest of Tralee and northwest of Killarney. Kerry Cattle
Kerry cattle ( or ''Bollatach'' or ''Buinín'') are a rare breed of dairy cattle, native to Ireland. They are believed to be one of the oldest breeds in Europe, probably derived from small black cattle brought to Ireland by Neolithic man. They were probably also the first cattle bred mainly for milk production, with other breeds being developed mainly for draught and meat. The climate of southwestern Ireland was suitable for milk production year-round, and the Celts also stored milk in the form of cheese and butter. Their coat is almost entirely black, with a little white on the udder. The horns are whitish with dark tips, but they are usually dehorned. Cows weigh about and produce of milk per lactation. The globules of fat are very small which makes the milk eminently suitable for the production of cheese, butter and yoghurt. ( Irish, meaning 'Ferriter's Townland' ) unofficially anglicised as Ballyferriter, or also known as , is a Gaeltacht village in County Kerry, Ireland. It is in the west of the (Dingle) peninsula and according to the 2002 census, about 75% of the town's population speak the Irish language on a daily basis. The village is named after the Norman-Irish family who settled in in the late medieval period. The last Chief of the Name was the seventeenth-century Bard and leader who was executed.
