	Murat Çelikkan Murat Çelikkan is a Turkish human rights defender and journalist. He is founder of some human rights organizations in Turkey: Human Rights Association, Amnesty International Turkey and Citizens Assembly and co-director of Hafıza Merkezi (Truth Justice Memory Center) He was awarded the ''Civil Rights Defender of the Year Award 2018'', by Civil Rights Defenders. Education and work Murat Çelikkan graduated from Middle East Technical University. He is a recent alumnus of the Columbia University Institute for the Study of Human Rights Alliance for Historical Dialogue and Accountability Program. 	Human Rights Association The Human Rights Association (, İHD) is an NGO for advancing Human rights in Turkey, founded in 1986 and headquartered in Ankara. Establishment The İHD's origins can be traced to the victims of the purges in the aftermath of the military coup of 1980 and was founded on 17 July 1986. The 98 founding members comprised lawyers, journalists, intellectuals, but mainly relatives of political prisoners. Launched in May 1992, the newspaper was known for its extensive reporting on the Kurdish-Turkish conflict, and was regularly accused of making propaganda for the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
