Muddana
Nandalike Lakshminaranappa, known by his pseudonym Muddana (24 January 1870 – 15 February 1901), was a Kannada writer and a Yakshagana poet. He was also known as ''Mahakavi'' ("Great Poet") or ''Mahakavi Muddana''. His best known works include ''Ratnavati Kalyaana''(Yakshagana), ''Sri Rama Pattaabhisheka'', ''Adbhuta Ramayana'' and ''Sri Ramashwamedha''. He coined the word ''Kannadam Kasthuriyanthe'', where he heartily compares his beloved language Kannada to Kasthuri. Suffering poverty and poor health, Muddana died at the age of 31. His literary works have been used extensively in Kannada literary educational books. Early life Lakshminaranappa was born on 24 January 1870 in Nandalike in Karkala taluk in Karnataka, India. His father was Pathaali Timmappaiah and mother Mahalakshmamma. His physical attractiveness earned him the nickname ''Muddana'', which comes from ''Muddu'' (cute) in the Kannada language. Yakshagana
Yakshagana is a traditional theatre, found in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kasaragod district and Uttara Kannada, Shimoga and western parts of Chikmagalur district, Chikmagalur districts, in the state of Karnataka and in Kasaragod district in Kerala that combines dance, music, dialogue, costume, make-up, and stage techniques with a unique style and form. Karkala
Karkala ( ) ( ) is a town and the headquarters of eponymous Karkala taluk in the Udupi district of Karnataka state in India. Panje Mangesh Rao
Panje Mangesh Rao (1874–1937) was an Indian writer and poet who wrote short stories, essays, poems and children's rhymes in Kannada. He is known as 'kavishishya'. He wrote Huthariya haadu, Naagara haave, Koti chennaya, Gudugudu Gummata Devaru, Maathaado raamappa. Life Mangesh Rao's ancestors hailed from ''Panje'', now in Dakshina Kannada. He was born on 22 February 1874 to Ramappayya and Seethamma, Chitrapur Saraswat Konkani Brahmins, and had six siblings. After finishing primary schooling, in Bantwal, he had to go to Mangalore to study in high school. His proficiency in Kannada brought him a Kannada translator's job, on a monthly salary of twenty rupees, even before he completed graduation. He married Girijabai and had six children.
