"Ms. Fat Booty" is a song by American rapper Mos Def. It was released on August 2, 1999 through Rawkus Records, as the lead single from the musician's debut solo studio album ''Black on Both Sides''. Production was handled by Ayatollah, who used multiple samples of Aretha Franklin's 1965 single " One Step Ahead". The song peaked at number 84 on the Dutch Single Top 100 and number 85 on the UK Singles Chart. Later in 2010 it was place at #144 on ''Pitchfork'''s "The Top 200 Tracks of the 1990s" list. It also appears on MTV Classic's 90's Nation and Yo! Hip Hop Mix. The song's sequel, "Ms. Fat Booty 2" featuring Ghostface Killah, was featured in 2000 compilation album ''Lyricist Lounge 2 ''Lyricist Lounge 2'' is the second installment in Rawkus Records ''Lyricist Lounge'' album series. Yasiin Bey (; born Dante Terrell Smith, December 11, 1973), previously and more commonly known by his stage name Mos Def (), is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and actor. His hip hop career began in 1994, alongside his siblings in the short-lived rap group Urban Thermo Dynamics (UTD), after which they appeared on albums by Da Bush Babees and De La Soul. Christopher Edward Martin (born March 21, 1966), known professionally as DJ Premier (also known as Preemo), is an American record producer and DJ. He is considered one of the greatest hip hop producers of all time. The Dutch Single Top 100 or Single Top 100 is a Dutch chart, based on official physical single sales, legal downloads and since July 2013 streaming and composed by Dutch Charts. ''Black on Both Sides'' is the debut solo studio album by American rapper Mos Def, released on October 12, 1999, by Rawkus and Priority Records. Prior to its recording, Mos Def had collaborated with Talib Kweli for the album '' Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star'' in 1998, which raised high expectations for a solo effort by the former. ''Black on Both Sides'' features an emphasis on live instrumentation and socially conscious lyrics. On February 2, 2000, the album was certified Gold in sales by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), following sales in excess of 500,000 copies. Music Talib Kweli (one-half of Black Star with Mos Def), Q-Tip and Busta Rhymes are the only main rappers to be featured on the album.
