Mount Tamborine is a town within the locality of Tamborine Mountain in South East Queensland, Australia. History Mount Tamborine Post Office had opened by March 1924 (a receiving office had been open from 1881, originally known as Tambourine Mountain), was renamed Mount Tamborine in 1926 and closed in 1977. The name "Tamborine" is taken from the Yugambeh language for "wild lime", after the finger lime trees in the area. Tamborine was sometimes spelt as "tchambreem", "jambreen" and "goombireen". Formerly a suburb in its own right, in 1997, Mount Tamborine was merged with other former suburbs North Tamborine and Eagle Heights to create the larger locality of Tamborine Mountain. All three suburbs now have the postcode 4272 and postal address of Tamborine Mountain. The postcode 4271 is reserved for the post office at Eagle Heights (which closed down permanently in 2024). North Tamborine, Queensland
North Tamborine is a rural town in the locality of Tamborine Mountain in the Scenic Rim Region, Queensland, Australia. Geography North Tamborine is south of Brisbane, and from the Gold Coast. Prior 2008, it was part of the Beaudesert Shire, in the Gold Coast hinterland. History Land in Tambourine North was first sold in 1875, with the first settler being John O' Callaghan. Sugar-growing began in 1885, but soon after, a flood hit, which halted the industry. Many early settlers grew maize and grazed dairy cattle. The first guesthouse on the mountain was opened in 1889. The town was connected by rail in 1915; the line closed in 1936. A tourist road to the mountain was completed in 1924. Tamborine National Park
Tamborine National Park is a protected area split between the City of Gold Coast and the Scenic Rim Region in South East Queensland, Australia, by road south of Brisbane. It covers on the plateau of Tamborine Mountain and around its foothills. The plateau is long, wide and rises to an altitude of . The elevation of the plateau keeps the temperature down a little in summer although December to April is also the wettest time to visit. Winter is drier but also cooler. The protected area is scattered across 14 separate reserves which make up the National Park, interspersed with villages. There are a number of picnic areas as well as scenic drives and many bushwalks to lookouts, gorges, cliffs, waterfalls, rainforest areas, wet eucalypt forest, open forest and woodlands. Tamborine Mountain Road is a continuous road route in the Scenic Rim local government area of Queensland, Australia. Part of the route is designated as State Route 95. It is a state-controlled district road (number 205), rated as a local road of regional significance (LRRS). The St Andrew's Wesleyan Church on Long Road was built in 1880. Eagle Heights Post Office opened on 1 July 1927 (a receiving office had been open from 1926). Formerly a suburb in its own right, in 1997, Eagle Heights was merged with other former suburbs North Tamborine and Mount Tamborine to create the larger locality of Tamborine Mountain. Scenic Rim is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. It was created in the 2017 redistribution, and was won at the 2017 election by Jon Krause. Located in South-East Queensland, Scenic Rim covers the Scenic Rim Region and some areas in the south of Ipswich and Logan extending to the New South Wales border, including the towns of Beaudesert and Boonah. Yugambeh (or ''Mibanah'', from , 'language of men' or 'sound of eagles'), also known as Tweed-Albert Bandjalang, is an Australian Aboriginal language spoken by the Yugambeh living in South-East Queensland between and within the Logan River basin and the Tweed River basin, bounded to the east by the Pacific Ocean (including South Stradbroke Island) and in the west by the Teviot Ranges and Teviot Brook basin.
