The land use is predominantly industrial with the eastern corner of the suburb () being part of the Townsville International Airport (which is mostly in neighbouring Garbutt). Manbarra
The Manbarra, otherwise known as the Wulgurukaba, are Aboriginal Australian people, and the traditional custodians of the Palm Islands, Magnetic Island, and an area of mainland Queensland to the west of Townsville. The Manbarra people were forcibly moved off the Palm Islands in the 1890s by the Queensland Government, and hundreds of people drawn from many Aboriginal nations on the mainland were moved to an Aboriginal reserve on Great Palm Island in 1914, becoming the Bwgcolman people, who inhabit the island today. Name The name "Wulgurukaba" translates to "canoe people". Language Wulguru/Manbarra was one of two Nyawaygic languages and constitutes the fourth class of the Herbert River languages, according to Robert M. W. Dixon. The surviving vocabulary of the Manbarra language, mainly collected by Ernest Gribble in 1932, indicates that it had a roughly 50% lexical overlap with Nyawaygi. Currajong is a suburb in the City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. In the , Currajong had a population of 2,548 people. Geography North Townsville Road runs along the northern boundary, and Garbutt–Upper Ross Road runs along the north-western boundary. History Currajong is situated in the traditional Wulgurukaba Aboriginal country. The name ''Currajong'' is believed to be derived from the name of the residence Currajong in Stagpole Street, West End, owned by Edward Hunt. The Ross River is a river located in northern Queensland, Australia. The long river flows through the city of Townsville and empties into the Coral Sea. It is the major waterway flowing through Townsville and the city's main source of drinking water. Mount St John Anti-Aircraft Battery is a heritage-listed fortification at 43 Toll Street, Mount St John, City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. It was built between February and April 1942.
