The ''Moscow Mathematical Journal'' (MMJ) is a mathematics journal published quarterly by the Independent University of Moscow and the HSE Faculty of Mathematics and distributed by the American Mathematical Society. The journal published its first issue in 2001. Mathematics
Mathematics is an area of knowledge that includes the topics of numbers, formulas and related structures, shapes and the spaces in which they are contained, and quantities and their changes. These topics are represented in modern mathematics with the major subdisciplines of number theory, algebra, geometry, and analysis, respectively. Yulij Ilyashenko
Yulij Sergeevich Ilyashenko (Юлий Сергеевич Ильяшенко, 4 November 1943, Moscow) is a Russian mathematician, specializing in dynamical systems, differential equations, and complex foliations. Ilyashenko received in 1969 from Moscow State University his Russian candidate degree (Ph.D.) under Evgenii Landis. Ilyashenko was a professor at Moscow State University, an academic at Steklov Institute, and also taught at the Independent University of Moscow. He became a professor at Cornell University. His research deals with, among other things, what he calls the "infinitesimal Hilbert's sixteenth problem", which asks what one can say about the number and location of the boundary cycles of planar polynomial vector fields. The problem is not yet completely solved. Ilyashenko attacked the problem using new techniques of complex analysis (such as functional cochains). Sabir Gusein-Zade
Sabir Medgidovich Gusein-Zade (russian: Сабир Меджидович Гусейн-Заде; born 29 July 1950 in Moscow) is a Russian mathematician and a specialist in singularity theory and its applications.. He studied at Moscow State University, where he earned his Ph.D. in 1975 under the joint supervision of Sergei Novikov and Vladimir Arnold. Before entering the university, he had earned a gold medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad. Gusein-Zade co-authored with V. I. Arnold and A. N. Varchenko the textbook ''Singularities of Differentiable Maps'' (published in English by Birkhäuser). The Independent University of Moscow (IUM) (russian: Независимый Московский Университет (НМУ)) is an educational organisation with rather informal status located in Moscow, Russia. It was founded in 1991 by a group of prominent Russian mathematicians that included Vladimir Arnold (chairman) and Sergei Novikov. The Faculty of Mathematics (FM) at the National Research University Higher School of Economics (Russian: факультет математики Национального Исследовательского университета «Высшая Школа Экономики») was founded in 2008 jointly by the Higher School of Economics (HSE) and the Independent University of Moscow (IUM).
