History Morris was originally called Springdale, and under the latter name was first settled about 1840 by a colony of German Catholics. The name was changed to Morris in 1856. A post office called Morris has been in operation since 1858. The center of community life is St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church which was founded in 1856 and which is, as of February 2025, the scene of an investigation into a possible eucharistic miracle. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and location information about more than two million physical and cultural features, encompassing the United States and its territories; the Compact of Free Association, associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau; and Antarctica. Ripley County is a county located at the southeastern corner of the U.S. state of Indiana. According to the 2020 Census, the population was 28,995. The county seat is Versailles. History Ripley County was formed on December 27, 1816, in the same legislative act that created Jennings County. It was named for Gen.
