Moose Mountain (New Hampshire)
Moose Mountain is an -long ridge located in the eastern part of the town of Hanover, New Hampshire, Hanover in Grafton County, New Hampshire, Grafton County, New Hampshire. The mountain is flanked to the north by Holts Ledge, at , and to the south (across Mascoma Lake) by Shaker Mountain (New Hampshire), Shaker Mountain, at . It is traversed by the Appalachian Trail, a National Scenic Trail from Georgia (U.S. state), Georgia to Maine. Moose Mountain is outside the White Mountain National Forest, but the trail runs through a narrow corridor along the ridge which is administered by the United States Forest Service, U.S. Forest Service. Northeast Airlines Flight 946
Northeast Airlines Flight 946 was a domestic U.S. flight from Boston, Massachusetts, to Montpelier, Vermont, with a scheduled stop in Lebanon, New Hampshire, operated by Northeast Airlines. On October 25, 1968, some time during the evening, the Fairchild Hiller FH-227 aircraft crashed on Moose Mountain while descending on approach. The crash killed 32 of 42 passengers and crew. Of the fatalities, four were employees from the National Life Insurance Company who were returning from a business trip. The fatalities also included a reporter for the '' Barre Daily Times'' and six social workers of the Vermont Head Start Supplementary Training Program on a conference trip. Ten passengers survived the crash with minor or moderate injuries. After the crash, Northeast Airlines continued flight service until its merger with Delta Air Lines in the early 1970s. Goose Pond (New Hampshire)
Goose Pond is a water body located in Grafton County in western New Hampshire, United States, in the towns of Canaan and Hanover. It is considered a great pond by the state of New Hampshire. The lake has of shoreline, and is approximately long by wide. All but the northernmost end of the pond is in the town of Canaan. The average depth of the pond is approximately , with the deepest part approximately . The lake is part of the Mascoma River watershed, flowing to the Connecticut River. There is evidence of Goose Pond in the late 1700s. According to legend, George Harris and his party in 1767 came upon a sheet of water near Hanover, whose surface seemed to be alive with wild geese and ducks. Mascoma River
The Mascoma River is a river in western New Hampshire in the United States. It is a tributary of the Connecticut River, which flows to Long Island Sound. The Mascoma comprises two sections which are split by Mascoma Lake in the communities of Enfield and Lebanon. Counting the lake would add to the river's length. The Mascoma River begins at Cummins Pond in a heavily forested part of the town of Dorchester and flows south into the town of Canaan, collecting water flowing from Reservoir Pond, Clark Pond, and Canaan Street Lake before reaching the Indian River. Here it turns west, collecting tributaries arriving from Goose Pond and Crystal Lake, before it passes through the mill town of Enfield and arrives at Mascoma Lake. Lyme is a town along the Connecticut River in Grafton County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 1,745 as of the 2020 census. Lyme is home to the Chaffee Natural Conservation Area.
