Monção (; ) is a municipality in the district of Viana do Castelo (district), Viana do Castelo in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 19,230, in an area of 211.31 km2. The current mayor is the Social Democrat António Barbosa. The municipal holiday is March 12. Climate Monção has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate (Köppen climate classification, Köppen: ''Csa'') with mild, rainy winters and hot dry summers. Although short, the summer season is dry enough to avoid being classified has a humid subtropical climate or an oceanic climate like nearby Vigo. Longos Vales's Monastery
The Longos Vales's Monastery () is a monastery in Longos Vales, Monção, Portugal. History The foundation of the monastery is attributed to D. Afonso Henriques in the second half of the 12th century. The only enduring element of the primitive medieval construction with its clearly Romanesque style is the main chapel, the remainder of the group was subjected to remodelling work when it passed into the hands of the Society of Jesus. Nowadays, the monastery is private property, with the exception of the Church (building), church which continues to be part of the parochial headquarters of the parish. Joaquim Pereira Pimenta De Castro
Joaquim Pereira Pimenta de Castro (5 November 1846, in Pias, Monção – 14 May 1918, in Lisbon; ) was a Portuguese people, Portuguese army officer and politician. He was a career military officer reaching the position of General, also graduated in mathematics by the University of Coimbra. In 1908, he was nominated commander of the 3rd Military Region, in Porto. After the proclamation of the Republic on 5 October 1910, he was Minister of War, for only two months, in 1911. He had to resign due to the monarchist incursion of Henrique Mitchell de Paiva Couceiro, Henrique de Paiva Couceiro. José Gomes Temporão (born 20 October 1951) is a Brazilian public health physician and politician, formerly of the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party, who later joined the Brazilian Socialist Party. Vinho Verde
Vinho Verde (; , nonliterally 'young wine') refers to Portuguese wine that originated in the historic Minho Province in the far north of the country. The modern-day 'Vinho Verde' region, originally designated in 1908, includes the old Minho Province plus adjacent areas to the south. In 1976, the old province was dissolved. Vinho Verde is not a grape variety, it is a Denominação de Origem Controlada, DOC for the production of wine. The name means 'green wine', but translates as "young wine", with wine being released three to six months after the grapes are harvested.
