Monsignor Martin Athletic Association
The Monsignor Martin Athletic Association is an athletic league founded in 1948 and comprising Catholic high schools and two private secular schools. Member schools compete for the Supremacy Cup, awarded to the school in each division that wins the most championships during a school year. For each sport, the league is divided by two divisions - Class AA (large schools) and Class A (small schools). All but two of the schools are located in Erie County, New York. The Immaculate Conception is the doctrine that the Virgin Mary was free of original sin from the moment of her conception. It is one of the four Mariology, Marian dogmas of the Catholic Church. Holy Angels Academy was a former all-girls, private, Roman Catholic high school in Buffalo, New York. Background Holy Angels Academy was established in 1861. It was founded by the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart who went on to establish D'Youville University. Its current address is on Hertel Avenue in North Buffalo, but was founded on the West Side of Buffalo. On April 30, 2013, Holy Angels staff announced that 2012-2013 would be the final academic year. An e-mail to parents stated, "The Board of Trustees and the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart made this decision after many weeks of discussion, data analysis, and deliberation among themselves and with school leaders." The Park School of Buffalo is a private, co-educational, college preparatory school located in Amherst, New York (north of Buffalo). Founded in 1912 during the American country day school movement, the institution features lower, middle, and upper schools, serving roughly 290 students from Pre-Kindergarten and Montessori through grade 12. About Park History Originally located in downtown Buffalo, The Park School was founded in 1912 by a group of Buffalo parents seeking an alternative to the existing pre-preparatory institutions in the area.
