Monika MacDonagh-Pajerová
Monika MacDonagh-Pajerová (born 8 January 1966) is a Czech activist, university teacher and former diplomat. She was the leading personality from the 1989 Velvet Revolution and chairperson of the pro-European organization ANO pro Evropu (YES for Europe) which campaigned for Czech membership of the European Union and higher public understanding of European issues. She is currently a lecturer in the Centre for International Education and Exchange CIEE attached to the Charles University in Prague. Biography Monika MacDonagh-Pajerová was born on 8 January 1966 in Janov, Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic). She came to public prominence during the 1989 Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia, serving as the official spokesperson for University Strike Committee and was a founding member of the Civic Forum. Ladislav Jakl (born 17 December 1959) is a Czech musician and journalist who served as the Secretary for political affairs under President Václav Klaus. The Green Party () is a green political party in the Czech Republic. History The Green party was founded in 1990 following the return to liberal democracy in Czechia following the Velvet Revolution. However, the party remained on the political margins until Jaromír Štětina was able to capture a seat in the Senate (upper house of the Parliament of the Czech Republic) in 2004. It was during this time that the Greens campaigned on pacificism (rejecting the idea that any foreign military power should have military bases in the Czech Republic) and greater incorporation of grassroots democracy in the country. Jiří Kolář (24 September 1914, Protivín – 11 August 2002, Prague) was a Czech poet, writer, painter and translator. His work included both literary and visual art. Life Kolář was born in Protivín on September 29, 1914, in a working-class environment. His father was a baker and his mother a seamstress, and he himself trained early in life as a cabinet maker (which cost him a finger). He later changed trades several times, working as a construction worker, security guard, and bartender, among other jobs. In 1943 he became a full-time writer while living and working in Kladno. He moved to the capital Prague in 1945 to work as an editor of the publishing house Družstvo Dílo. Kolář joined the Communist Party in 1945 but left the Party the same year.
