The Irish Challenge is a golf tournament on the Challenge Tour The Challenge Tour, currently titled as the HotelPlanner Tour for sponsorship reasons and also sometimes referred to as the European Challenge Tour, is the second-tier men's professional golf tour in Europe. It is operated by the PGA European To .... In 2021 it was held at Portmarnock Hotel & Golf Links. The first event was played in October 2015 and was won by Tom Murray who beat Nino Bertasio at the second hole of a sudden-death playoff, winning the first prize of €28,800. The 2019 event was reduced to 54 holes after the final was abandoned because of heavy rain. Emilio Cuartero and Oscar Lengdén were tied for the lead after three rounds and had a playoff at the par-3 17th hole. Cuartero won with a birdie at the third extra hole. Straffan
Straffan () is a village in County Kildare, Ireland. It is situated on the banks of the River Liffey, 25 km upstream of the Irish capital Dublin. As of the 2022 census of Ireland, 2022 census, the village had a population of 1,158, an over three-fold increase (from 332) since the 2002 census. Oliver John Wilson (born 14 September 1980) is an English professional golfer. Wilson was a member of the 2008 Ryder Cup, but had to wait another six years for his first European Tour win, the 2014 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Amateur career Wilson was born in Mansfield, England, where his golfing career began at Coxmoor Golf Club, having been a junior at Oakmere Park Golf Club. Daan Huizing (born 22 October 1990) is a Dutch professional golfer. Huizing entered the European Tour qualifying school at the end of 2012. Because of his high ranking as an amateur, he was exempt from the first stage of qualifying. He made it through to the third stage where he finished 80th, earning a place in some Challenge Tour events for 2013. Huizing won twice in 2013, at the Northern Ireland Open Challenge and two weeks later at the Kharkov Superior Cup. He was also joint runner-up in the Kärnten Golf Open and finished the year in sixth place in the Challenge Tour standings, and graduated to the European Tour for 2014. The 2021 Challenge Tour was the 33rd season of the Challenge Tour, the official development tour to the European Tour. Changes for 2021 Similarly to 2020, the season was due to begin in February with three tournaments in South Africa co-sanctioned with the Sunshine Tour, but in mid-January the South African swing was postponed to April/May because of COVID-19 pandemic concerns. The official schedule announcement was made on 27 January 2021. In April two back-to-back events in Sweden in May were added.
