Molong, New South Wales
Molong is a small town in the Central West (New South Wales), Central West region of New South Wales, Australia, in Cabonne Shire Council, Cabonne Shire. History The name Molong comes from the indigenous Australians, Aboriginal word for 'all rocks'. William Lee of Kelso is said to have had cattle in the area by 1819. He later held property just north of present Molong, around Larras Lee. In 1826, a military and police outpost was established at Molong, on Ralph Darling, Governor Darling's orders, as a step in opening up the government stock reserve west of the Macquarie River for settlement. For its first twenty years the settlement was at a site approximately east of the current location. The present village of Molong was officially gazetted in March 1849. In 1845, Copper was discovered at Copper Hill, just north of the town. The Historical Museum is housed in a former hotel (1856), built by Rubble masonry, rubble-mason James Mortal, who sold it in 1861 to John Smith (New Sou ... Mitchell Highway is an outback state highway located in the central and south western regions of Queensland and the northern and central western regions of New South Wales in Australia. The southern part of Mitchell Highway forms part of the National Highway A32 B71 corridor, which stretches from Sydney to Brisbane via Dubbo. Broken Hill Railway Line, New South Wales
The Broken Hill railway line, extending from Orange, New South Wales to Broken Hill, is now part of the transcontinental rail corridor from Sydney to Perth. The first railway line in New South Wales opened from Sydney to Parramatta Junction (near Granville station) in 1855 and was extended as the Main Western line in stages to Orange in 1877. The Broken Hill line branched off the Main Western line at Orange and was opened to Molong in 1885. It was extended to Parkes and Forbes in 1893, and extended from Parkes to Bogan Gate and Condobolin in 1898. Roto and Trida were reached in 1919. A gap remained between Trida and Menindee after an isolated standard-gauge line was opened from Menindee to the town of Broken Hill in 1919.
