Lampasas County ( ) is a county located on the Edwards Plateau in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 21,627. Its county seat is Lampasas. The county is named for the Lampasas River. Lampasas County is part of the Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood metropolitan area. History Indigenous peoples were the first inhabitants of the area. Later known tribes in the area included Tonkawa, Lipan Apache and Comanche. The Aguayo expedition is said to have passed through the county in 1721. In 1756 a presidio was established by Don Pedro de Terreros with the assistance of elements of the Spanish Army, at the confluence of Lucy Creek and Arroya Cavalto. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and location information about more than two million physical and cultural features, encompassing the United States and its territories; the Compact of Free Association, associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau; and Antarctica. The Texas State Historical Association (TSHA) is an American nonprofit educational and research organization dedicated to documenting the history of Texas. It was founded in Austin, Texas, United States, on March 2, 1897. In November 2008, the TSHA moved its offices from Austin to the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. In 2015, the offices were relocated again to the University of Texas at Austin. History On February 13, 1897, ten persons convened to discuss the creation of a nonprofit to promote Texas state history. George Pierce Garrison, chair of the University of Texas history department, led the organizational meeting establishing the association on March 2, 1893. Star Independent School District
Star Independent School District was a public school district based in the community of Star, Texas, USA. Located in Mills County, the district extended into portions of Hamilton and Lampasas counties. It was about west of Waco. Star ISD had one school that served students in grades kindergarten through twelve. History The Center City, Hurst Ranch, McGirk, Moline, Payne Gap, Plainview, and Pleasant Grove schools consolidated into Star City in the period 1930 through 1938. Beginning circa 2006 the district experienced a decline in enrollment and funding. In 2013 the district had 56 students; the State of Texas reduces funding if a school district's enrollment is fewer than 90 students. That year the district's closure was announced. The final superintendent, Barbara Marchbanks, stated that parents leaving the area to find other jobs caused enrollment to decline.
