The City of Darwin is a local government area of the Northern Territory, Australia. It includes the central business district of the capital, Darwin City, and represents two-thirds of its metropolitan population. The City covers an area of and, in June 2018, had a population of 84,613 people. History The first Town and District Council was formed in 1874. The Darwin Town Council was created in 1915. Electoral Division Of Johnston
Johnston is an electoral division of the Legislative Assembly in Australia's Northern Territory. It was first created in 2001, replacing the abolished seat of Jingili, and is named after Commodore Eric Johnston, a former Administrator of the Northern Territory. Johnston is an urban electorate, covering only 5 km² and taking in the Darwin suburbs of Jingili, Moil, Wagaman and part of Alawa. There were 5,556 people enrolled within the electorate as of August 2020. Johnston was essentially a reconfigured version of one of the original electorates in the Northern Territory, Jingili, which had been held by the Country Liberal Party for its entire existence and was the seat of the Territory's second head of government, Paul Everingham. Wagaman is a suburb of the Australian city of Darwin, Northern Territory. It lies in the band of locations known as the northern suburbs. An established residential area, Wagaman is bounded by Vanderlin Drive in the north, Lee Point Road in the east, Parer Drive in the south and Trower Road in the west; these confines correspond to the neighbouring suburbs of Alawa, Moil, Anula, Wanguri and Casuarina. History Wulagi is one of Darwin's northern suburbs east of Lee Point Road and was built after Cyclone Tracy struck Darwin, Northern Territory in 1974. The name originates from an Aboriginal tribe on the Blyth and Cadell Rivers in Central Arnhem Land. Development of the area was primarily during the 1970s and 1980s. Larrakia People
The Larrakia people are a group of Aboriginal Australian people in and around Darwin in the Northern Territory. The Larrakia, who refer to themselves as "Saltwater People", had a vibrant traditional society based on a close relationship with the sea and trade with neighbouring groups such as the Tiwi, Wadjiginy and Djerimanga.
