Mogadishu, locally known as Xamar or Hamar, is the capital and List of cities in Somalia by population, most populous city of Somalia. The city has served as an important port connecting traders across the Indian Ocean for millennia and has an estimated urban population of 2,610,483. Mogadishu Stadium ( Somali: Garoonka Muqdisho) is a stadium in Mogadishu, Somalia. During the Somali Civil War, the stadium was heavily damaged by foreign troops who used the structure as a base. Lido Beach () is a beach in Somalia's capital, Mogadishu, which overlooks the Somali Sea. It derives its name () from the Italian word for "beach". Commonly, the name ''Liido'' is colloquially used by locals. Banaadir
Banaadir (, , ) is an administrative region ('' gobol'') in southeastern Somalia. It covers the same area as the city of Mogadishu, which serves as the capital. It is the only region in the country not belonging to any of the six states. It is bordered to the northwest by the Shabelle river, and to the southeast by the Indian Ocean. Although by far the smallest administrative region in Somalia, it has the largest population, estimated at 1,650,227 (including 369,288 internally displaced persons) in 2014. History The Mosque of Islamic Solidarity was constructed in 1987 by Hamar Construction company with financial support from the Saudi Fahd bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud Foundation.
