''Curriculum for Excellence'' (Scottish Gaelic: ''Curraicealam airson Sàr-mhathais'') is the national curriculum in Scotland, used by Scottish schools for learners ages 3–18. The implementation of ''Curriculum for Excellence'' is overseen by Education Scotland, the executive agency of the Scottish Government responsible for the education system in Scotland. History Development It was developed out of a 2002 consultation exercise – the ''National Debate on Education'' – undertaken by the-then First McConnell government of the Scottish Executive on the state of school education. Advanced Higher
The Advanced Higher (Scottish Gaelic: ''Sàr Àrd Ìre'') is an optional qualification which forms part of the Scottish secondary education system brought in to replace the Certificate of Sixth Year Studies (CSYS). The first certification of Advanced Higher was in 2001. It is normally taken by students aged around 16–18 years of age after they have completed Highers, which are the main university entrance qualification in Scotland. An Advanced Higher is the highest certificate offered by the Scottish Qualifications Authority as part of the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework. An Advanced Higher qualification is essentially a simulation of the first year of university in that particular subject; this is the reason that Advanced Highers can be used for second-year university entry. The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA; Scottish Gaelic, Gaelic: ''Ùghdarras Theisteanas na h-Alba'') is the Scottish public bodies, executive non-departmental public body of the Scottish Government responsible for accrediting educational awards. Political literacy is a set of abilities considered necessary for citizens to participate in a society's government. Definitions The Crick Report defines political literacy as people "learning about and how to make themselves effective in public life through knowledge, skills and value". Denver and Hands (1990) defined it as "the knowledge and understanding of the political process and political issues which enables people to perform their roles as citizens effectively." However, political scientists differ on whether interest in politics and media exposure should be considered as factors in political literacy.
