Moate Railway Station
Moate railway station is a former railway station which served the town of Moate in County Westmeath, Ireland. Previously a stop on the Midland Great Western Railway's main line to Galway and later on the main route between Dublin and stations in County Mayo, the station was closed in 1987. As of 2015, the line and station at Moate form part of the Athlone to Mullingar Cycleway. History The station was first opened in 1851, and located on the Midland Great Western Railway's line to Galway. The station formed part of the main route between Dublin, County Galway and County Mayo until 1973, when Córas Iompair Éireann transferred the majority of these services to the Great Southern and Western Railway route from Portarlington. Transport 21
Transport 21 was an Irish infrastructure plan, announced in November 2005. Its aims were to greatly expand Ireland's transport network. A cost estimate of €34 billion was attached to the plan at the time. The plan included continuing investment in Ireland's road network, along with investment in public transport in the form of buses and rail. After the collapse of the Irish banking system the Transport 21 project was cancelled in May 2011. A significant portion of this investment would focus on the creation of an integrated rail network in Dublin. Projects included a tunnel under Dublin city centre connecting Heuston Station with Pearse Station and Docklands station at Spencer Dock. This would facilitate the expansion of the Dublin Area Rapid Transit (DART) system from one line to two. Athlone Railway Station
Athlone railway station is a station which serves the town of Athlone in County Roscommon and County Westmeath. It is located in the town on the east side of the river Shannon. The station is an interchange station between the Dublin-Galway and Dublin- Westport rail services. In addition it is located adjacent to the town's bus station. There are three platforms, of which Numbers 2 and 3 are an island platform. History Athlone has had two Railway stations of varying roles over time. They are on opposite sides of the River Shannon, connected by the White Bridge. Streamstown
Streamstown () is a village in County Westmeath, Ireland. It sits roughly 20 km from the county town of Mullingar. Streamstown was historically called ''Ballintruhan'', which is an anglicisation of its Irish name. A horse named ''Streamstown'' competed in the 2002 Grand National Steeplechase, finishing in ninth place. Streamstown railway station opened on 1 August 1851 and finally closed on 17 June 1963. The Taoiseach is the head of government, or prime minister, of Ireland. The Dublin-Galway Greenway is a partially completed 'coast-to-coast' greenway and partial rail trail, in Ireland, funded by the Department of Transport, which is due to become the western section of EuroVelo EV2, a cycle route from Galway, Ireland, crossing Europe and ending in Moscow, Russia. Willie Penrose (born 1 August 1956) is a former Irish Labour Party politician who served as Chairman of the Labour Parliamentary Party from 2016 to 2020 and a Minister of State from March 2011 to November 2011. He served as a Teachta Dála (TD) from 1992 to 2020. Education and professional career Penrose was born in Ballynacargy, County Westmeath, in 1956.
