Miꞌkmaw Kinaꞌmatnewey
Mi'kmaw Kina'matnewey is an organization that advocates for the educational interests of twelve Mi'kmaw communities in Nova Scotia. It is a corporation without share capital established for the purpose of supporting the delivery of educational programs and services by the Mi’kmaq Education Act of 1998 of the Government of Canada. By 2002 a curriculum had been developed to teach the Miꞌkmaq language. In 2013, 88% of students who started Grade 12 on reserve graduated. The Mi'kmaq (also ''Mi'gmaq'', ''Lnu'', ''Mi'kmaw'' or ''Mi'gmaw''; ; , and formerly Micmac) are an Indigenous group of people of the Northeastern Woodlands, native to the areas of Canada's Atlantic Provinces, primarily Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland, and the Gaspé Peninsula of Quebec as well as Native Americans in the northeastern region of Maine. Robert Norman Munsch (born June 11, 1945) is an American-born, Canadian children's author. Personal life and career Robert Munsch was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on June 11, 1945. He grew up in a family of nine children. Munsch graduated from Fordham University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and from Boston University in 1971 with a Master of Arts degree in anthropology. Munsch studied to become a Jesuit priest, but decided he would rather work with children after having jobs at orphanages and daycare centers. In 1973, Munsch received a Master of Education in Child Studies from Tufts University. He moved to Canada in 1975 to work at the preschool at the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario. Munsch also taught in the College of Family and Consumer Studies at the University of Guelph as a lecturer and as an assistant professor.
