Mitchell High School (South Dakota)
Mitchell High School is a public high school located in Mitchell, South Dakota. It serves students in grades 9 through 12, and is the only high school in the Mitchell School District. History High school classes were held in the Central School until 1909, when a new Mitchell High School was built. By the 2010s, there was an alternative school, Second Chance HS, for at-risk students that provided a small, more customized learning environment. Demographics The location and nature of Mitchell High School is rural. The student body of Mitchell High School is 85 percent white, five percent Native American, five percent Hispanic, one percent African-American, one percent Asian, and three percent of students identify as a part of two or more races. Mitchell Corn Palace
The Corn Palace, commonly advertised as The World's Only Corn Palace and the Mitchell Corn Palace, is a multi-purpose arena/facility located in Mitchell, South Dakota, United States. The Moorish Revival architecture, Moorish Revival building is decorated with crop art; the murals and designs covering the building are made from Maize, corn and other grains, and a new design is constructed each year. The Corn Palace is a popular tourist destination, visited by up to 500,000 people each year. George McGovern
George Stanley McGovern (July 19, 1922 – October 21, 2012) was an American politician, diplomat, and historian who was a U.S. representative and three-term U.S. senator from South Dakota, and the Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party presidential nominee in the 1972 U.S. presidential election. McGovern grew up in Mitchell, South Dakota, where he became a renowned debater. He volunteered for the U.S. Army Air Forces, U.S. Army Air Forces upon the country's American entry into World War II, entry into World War II. As a B-24 Liberator pilot, he flew 35 missions over German-occupied Europe from a base in Italy. Among the medals he received was a Distinguished Flying Cross (United States), Distinguished Flying Cross for making a hazardous emergency landing of his damaged plane and saving his crew. Mike Miller (basketball, Born 1980)
Michael Lloyd Miller (born February 19, 1980) is an American former professional basketball player and coach. He played 17 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) after being selected by the Orlando Magic in the first round of the 2000 NBA draft with the fifth overall pick. Miller was named the NBA Rookie of the Year with the Magic in 2001 and was voted NBA Sixth Man of the Year with the Memphis Grizzlies in 2006. He won two consecutive NBA championships with the Miami Heat in 2012 and 2013. Miller played college basketball for the Florida Gators before entering the NBA.
