Mississauga—Erindale
Mississauga—Erindale was a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 2004 to 2015. It was created in 2003 from parts of Mississauga Centre and Mississauga West ridings. In 2013, it was abolished into Mississauga—Erin Mills, Mississauga Centre and Mississauga—Lakeshore. It consisted of the part of the City of Mississauga bounded by a line drawn from the southwestern city limit northeast along Britannia Road West, southeast along Erin Mills Parkway, northeast along Eglinton Avenue West, southeast along Mavis Road, southwest along the Queensway West, west along the Credit River and southwest along Dundas Street West to the city limit. Mississauga Centre () is a federal electoral district in the Peel Region of Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1997 to 2004 and since 2015. Geography The riding contains the neighbourhoods of Creditview, Mavis-Erindale, Mississauga City Centre, and parts of Fairview, Mississauga Valleys, Rathwood, Erindale, East Credit, Brittania and Hurontario. History This riding was first created in 1996 from parts of Mississauga South, Mississauga East and Mississauga West ridings. Throughout its initial existence, it was represented in the House of Commons by Carolyn Parrish. It consisted of the central part of the City of Mississauga. Omar Alghabra
Omar Alghabra (; born October 24, 1969) is a Saudi-born Syrian-Canadian politician who served as Canada's minister of transport from 2021 to 2023. A member of the Liberal Party, he represented the riding of Mississauga Centre in the House of Commons from 2015 election until 2025. He was previously the member of Parliament (MP) for Mississauga—Erindale from 2006 to 2008. Early life and education Alghabra was born in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia to a Syrian family. His father, an architect, moved their family to Saudi Arabia in 1968. Alghabra has stated that he remembers living a sheltered life there, attending private school and visiting Syria in the summer. Alghabra completed his high school education at the Dhahran Ahliyya School in Alkhobar. He then moved to Damascus, Syria, where he started his engineering degree at Damascus University. Robert "Bob" Dechert (born May 18, 1958) is a former Canadian politician and lawyer. A member of the Conservative Party of Canada, Dechert served as the member of Parliament for the riding of Mississauga—Erindale in the House of Commons of Canada from 2008 to 2015. Background Dechert was born in Brampton, Ontario and graduated from McMaster University in Hamilton with a Bachelor of Arts in economics. Mississauga—Erin Mills is a federal electoral district in Ontario. It encompasses a portion of Ontario formerly included in the electoral district of Mississauga—Erindale. Mississauga—Erin Mills was created by the 2012 federal electoral boundaries redistribution and was legally defined in the 2013 representation order. It came into effect upon the call of the 42nd Canadian federal election, held on 19 October 2015. Following the 2022 Canadian federal electoral redistribution, the riding will lost all of its territory east of Erin Mills Parkway that is north of the 403 to Mississauga—Streetsville. Carolyn Parrish (born Karolina Janozeski; October 3, 1946) is a Canadian politician who has been the 7th and current mayor of Mississauga since June 24, 2024. Parrish previously served as a Member of Parliament (Canada), member of Parliament (MP), representing ridings in Mississauga from 1993 to 2006. She sat as a Liberal Party of Canada, Liberal until 2004. Mississauga West was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1988 to 2003. It was located in the city of Mississauga in the province of Ontario. This riding was created in 1987 from Mississauga North riding. Library Of Parliament
The Library of Parliament () is the main information repository and research resource for the Parliament of Canada. The main branch of the library sits at the rear of the Centre Block on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Ontario. The library survived the 1916 fire that destroyed Centre Block. The library has been augmented and renovated several times since its construction in 1876, the last between 2002 and 2006, though the form and decor remain essentially authentic. The building today serves as a Canadian icon, and appears on the obverse of the Canadian ten-dollar bill.
