Miquel Bauçà
Miquel Bauçà Rosselló (; 1940–2004) was a Mallorcan poet and writer in the Catalan language. His poems have appeared in most contemporary Catalan poetry anthologies. He was recognized as a talented poet from a young age with ''Una bella història'' (1962). Bauçà wrote poetry and narrative work, contained in the publication of ''El Canvi'' (1998), the highlight of his work and the beginning of a poetic-encyclopedic project that deepened his later works. He died in late 2004, in solitude; his body was discovered in early 2005. Early life Bauçà came from a farming family in Felanitx. He was predominantly raised by a cruel father after his mother died when he was 12; the lost relationship with his mother is detailed in a poem included in ''Una bella història''. Felanitx, Mallorca
Felanitx () is a municipality in the Spanish autonomous community of the Balearic Islands, located in the southeast of Majorca, 48 kilometres (30 miles) from the capital Palma de Mallorca. The town, dating back to the 13th century, lies near the medieval Sant Salvador Monastery with its Gothic architecture. Culture The St. Agustí convent was founded by Augustinians in the 17th century. In 1881 the Felanitx town council took over the church and celebrates that event every year. It's celebrated by performing Els Cavallets, a dance in which six ''Cavallets'' between 10 and 14 years of age, perform dances. The ''Cavallets'' wear a cardboard horse around their middles, dressed in a red shirt and a green hat. They dance around ''La Dama'', a girl in a green dress with a red hat. Franz Kafka
Franz Kafka (3 July 1883 – 3 June 1924) was a novelist and writer from Prague who was Jewish, Austrian, and Czech and wrote in German. He is widely regarded as a major figure of 20th-century literature. Miquel De Palol
Miquel de Palol i Muntanyola (born April 2, 1953) is a Catalan architect, poet and storyteller, son of the archaeologist Pere de Palol. In 2011 he was appointed president of the Associació d'Escriptors en Llengua Catalana, Association of Collegiate Writers of Catalonia. His first novel in Catalan language, Catalan, ''El jardí dels set crepuscles'' (''The Garden of Seven Twilights''), earned in the year of its publication (1989) almost all the prizes available for works in Catalan language. Biography Born in Barcelona, he lived in Valladolid until he was 17, due to his father's job. Back in Barcelona, he studied Architecture and began his literary activity as a poet. Mossos D'Esquadra
The ''Mossos d'Esquadra'' (; ), also known as the ''Policia de la Generalitat de Catalunya'' and informally as ''Mossos'', is the State police#Spain, regional police force in the autonomous community of Catalonia. They trace their origins back to squads formed in 1719. History On 21 July 1950 the Francoist Spain, Francoist-controlled Provincial Deputation of Barcelona was authorised to create a small security force using the historical title ''Mossos d'Esquadra''. These new Mossos were a militarized corps having little similarity to the earlier incarnations, with limited powers and small numbers, which was in charge of protecting the government buildings of the Province of Barcelona. Eixample
The Eixample (, ) is a district of Barcelona between the old city (Ciutat Vella) and what were once surrounding small towns (Sants, Gràcia, Sant Andreu, etc.), constructed in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Its population was 262,000 at the last census (2005). Architecture and design The Eixample is characterized by long straight streets, a strict grid pattern crossed by wide avenues, and square blocks with chamfer#architecture, chamfered corners (named ''illes'' in Catalan, ''manzanas'' in Spanish). This was a visionary, pioneering design by Ildefons Cerdà, who considered traffic and transport along with sunlight and ventilation in coming up with his characteristic octagonal blocks, where the streets broaden at every intersection making for greater visibility, better ventilation and (today) some short-term parking areas. Catalan-speaking Countries
The Catalan Countries (, ) refers to the territories where the Catalan language is spoken. They include the Spanish regions of Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, Valencian Community, and parts of Aragon (''La Franja'') and Murcia (Carche), as well as the Principality of Andorra, the department of Pyrénées-Orientales (aka Northern Catalonia, including Cerdagne, Roussillon, and Vallespir) in France, and the city of Alghero in Sardinia (Italy).
