Minster FM
Minster FM was an Independent Local Radio station serving York and the surrounding areas such as Selby, Tadcaster, Thirsk, Northallerton and Goole. The station closed on 31 August 2020 and its frequency is now a relay of Greatest Hits Radio Yorkshire. It broadcast on 104.7 FM from the Acklam Wold transmitter, near Leavening, on the Yorkshire Wolds. History Former logo used until Rebranding in 2020 Minster FM, named after York Minster, launched at 6am on Saturday 4 July 1992. This was nine years to the day after BBC Radio York had started to broadcast. The first presenter to air was Daragh Corcoran and the first song played was 'Saturday in the Park' by Chicago. FM Broadcasting
FM broadcasting is a method of radio broadcasting that uses frequency modulation (FM) of the radio broadcast carrier wave. Invented in 1933 by American engineer Edwin Armstrong, wide-band FM is used worldwide to transmit high fidelity, high-fidelity sound over broadcast radio. Chicago (band)
Chicago is an American rock band formed in Chicago, Illinois, in 1967. Self-described as a "rock and roll band with horns," their songs often also combine elements of classical music, jazz, R&B, and pop music. Growing out of several bands from the Chicago area in the late 1960s, the original line-up consisted of Peter Cetera on bass, Terry Kath on guitar, Robert Lamm on keyboards, Lee Loughnane on trumpet, James Pankow on trombone, Walter Parazaider on woodwinds, and Danny Seraphine on drums. Cetera, Kath, and Lamm shared lead vocal duties. The group initially called themselves the Big Thing, then changed to the Chicago Transit Authority in 1968, and finally shortened the name to Chicago in 1969. CountryLine Radio is a UK-based radio station playing country music. Founded by Chris Stevens, it launched as Chris Country on 27 April 2013. The station is now owned by CountryLine, having purchased the station from Chris Stevens and Nation Broadcasting in March 2020 and its owners rebranded the station on 7 March 2022 to CountryLine Radio. Hits Radio Lincolnshire is an Independent Local Radio station serving Lincolnshire and Newark in Nottinghamshire. The station is owned and operated by Bauer Media Audio UK as part of the Hits Radio Network. The station has rebranded from its original name Lincs FM on 17 April 2024. As of September 2024, the station has a weekly audience of 99,000 listeners according to RAJAR. Background Lincs FM commenced broadcasting from studios at Witham Park in Lincoln on 1 March 1992. YorkMix Radio is a British radio station broadcasting to the city of York. It was founded in early 2021, following the sale and re-branding of Minster FM as Greatest Hits Radio, and features a number of the presenters and staff who previously operated Minster FM. It is owned by YorkMix, who operate a local news website for the York area. History Following the end of locally based programming on Minster FM, the operators of local news website YorkMix started a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for a replacement local radio station. Oliver's Mount
Oliver's Mount is an area of high ground overlooking Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England. It offers views over the town, a tribute monument to the war dead, camping and caravanning at selected times of the year, 10 football pitches, 1 rugby league pitch, in the past a small school, and a cafe, but may be primarily known for its motorcycle races. Oliver's Mount first held a motorcycle race in 1946, and continues to hold motorcycle circuit racing today, and also holds car rally and car hill-climb events. Cars have raced here twice, in 1955 and 1956. In 2016 Oliver's Mount was the summit for the final classified climb on the third stage of the Tour de Yorkshire cycle race. Bilsdale Transmitting Station
The Bilsdale transmitting station is a broadcasting and telecommunications facility, located at Bilsdale West Moor above Bilsdale, close to Helmsley, North Yorkshire, England. The original facility included a Radio masts and towers#Tubular steel, guyed steel tubular mast that was primarily used for radio and television transmission. The height of the mast was to the pinnacle. Until a fire disabled the transmitter on 10 August 2021 it was among the most powerful transmitters in the UK. The power for analogue was 500 kW effective radiated power, ERP and it was 100 kW / 50 kW for digital.
