Minnesota House Of Representatives Election, 2012
The 2012 Minnesota House of Representatives election was held in the U.S. state of Minnesota on November 6, 2012, to elect members to the House of Representatives of the 88th Minnesota Legislature. A primary election was held in several districts on August 14, 2012. The Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL) won a majority of seats, defeating the majority of the Republican Party of Minnesota. This was the first election for the Republicans since it won a majority of seats in the 2010 election, after losing a majority to the DFL in the 2006 election. Minnesota House Of Representatives
The Minnesota House of Representatives is the lower chamber of the U.S. state of Minnesota's Minnesota Legislature, legislature. It operates in conjunction with the Minnesota Senate, the state's upper chamber, to write and pass legislation, which is then subject to approval by the governor of Minnesota. Established in 1858, the Minnesota House of Representatives has 134 members elected from single-member districts across the state. Representatives serve two-year terms without term limits, with all seats up for election every two years. Steve Smith (Minnesota Politician)
Steven Smith (November 29, 1949 – c. April 7, 2014) was a Minnesota politician and a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives representing District 33A, which includes portions of Hennepin and Wright counties in the western Twin Cities metropolitan area. A Republican, he was an attorney by profession. Smith was first elected in 1990, and was reelected every two years thereafter until defeated in 2012. Mary Sawatzky (born February 7, 1961) is a Minnesota politician and former member of the Minnesota House of Representatives.
