The Ministry of Communications and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan (MCI RK, , , ҚР БАМ; , МСИ РК) was a ministerial body of the Government of Kazakhstan as part of the Cabinet of Ministers. The Ministry was responsible for communications and in the areas of informational, media, archiving and documentation, automation of public services and coordination of public service activities. History The Ministry was originally created on 31 August 1991 as Ministry of Print and Mass Media with Quanysh Sultanov being its first Minister. On 14 October 1995, it was formed into the National Agency for Press and Mass Media of the Republic of Kazakhstan until being reestablished as Ministry of Information and Public Accord on 13 October 1997. Following the cabinet restructuring, the Ministry from 22 January 1999 was part of the Ministry of Culture, Information and Public Accord. Astana
Astana is the capital city of Kazakhstan. With a population of 1,423,726 within the city limits, it is the second-largest in the country after Almaty, which had been the capital until 1997. The city lies on the banks of the Ishim (river), Ishim River in the north-central part of Kazakhstan, within the Akmola Region, though administered as a city with special status separately from the rest of the region. Asqar Quanyshuly Zhumaghaliyev (, ''Asqar Quanyşūly Jūmağaliev''; born 2 August 1972) is a Kazakh politician. He was the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan from 29 August 2017 until the government was dismissed on 25 February 2019. Zhumagaliyev was the Deputy Minister for Investment and Development of Kazakhstan, chief executive officer of Kazatomprom, Kazakhstan's uranium mining company. Altynbek Sarsenbayuly (, ''Altynbek Särsenbaiūly''; 12 September 1962 – 11 February 2006) was a Kazakh politician who served in the Government of Kazakhstan before becoming a political opposition leader. At the time of his death, he served as co-chairman of the opposition Naghyz Ak Zhol (True Bright Path) party. In 2003, after a long career in senior Kazakh government positions, such as Information Minister and Ambassador to Russia, Sarsenbayuly joined the opposition ranks in protest against what he regarded as the administration's authoritarian policies. Soon after his decision to contest in the 2005 Kazakh presidential election, Sarsenbayuly faced government intimidation tactics, including a physical assault by unidentified individuals during a presidential campaign meeting with voters and the alleged beating of his two nephews in November 2005.
