Thayet District
Thayet District (; also Thayetmyo District) is a district of the Magway Region in central Myanmar. The administrative centre is the town of Thayet. History Upon the annexation of Pegu by the British in 1852–53, Thayet was a subdivision of Prome district; but in 1870 it was created as a separate jurisdiction and placed under a deputy-commissioner. Prior to 1896 Thayet District was in the Irrawaddy Division of Lower Burma, but it was transferred to Upper Burma for administrative purposes that year. Ecology The principal wild animals have historically been elephants, rhinoceros, tigers, leopards, black bears and wild hogs. Silver pheasants and partridges are found in large numbers, especially in the mountains. Irrawaddy River
The Irrawaddy River (, , Ayeyarwady) is the principal river of Myanmar, running through the centre of the country. Myanmar’s most important commercial waterway, it is about 1,350 miles (2,170 km) long. Originating from the confluence of the N'Mai River, N'mai and Mali River, Mali rivers, it flows from north to south before emptying through the Irrawaddy Delta in the Ayeyarwady Region into the Andaman Sea. Minhla Township, Magway
Minhla Township is a township of Thayet District in the Magway Region of Myanmar (Burma). The administrative seat of the township is Minhla. Geography Minhla Township has a total area of 2,371.4 km2. It is bordered to the north by the townships of Ngape and Minbu of Minbu District. It borders Rakhine State to the east. In the east, the township borders Magway Township of Magway Division. Within its own district, are its southern border townships of Mindon, Thayet, and Sinbaungwe. There are an estimated 153 villages. Minhla Fortress
Minhla Fortress () is a historic fortress located in Minhla, Magway, Minhla, Magway Region, Myanmar. The fortress was built in 1860 to 1861 to defend the Konbaung dynasty's territory following the Second Anglo-Burmese War. It was built with the assistance of French and Italian engineers, including Captain Molinari, an Italian engineer, along the western bank of the Irrawaddy River. This fort, along with the Gwegyaung Fortress, was used as a defensive point of resistance by Burmese troops during the Third Anglo-Burmese War in 1885.
