Mindaugas Šliūpas
Mindaugas Šliūpas (1919–1979) was a Lithuanian basketball player. He won a gold medal with the Lithuania men's national basketball team, Lithuania national basketball team during EuroBasket 1939. He played one game against Finland and scored no points. He was a son of physician Rokas Šliūpas and nephew of activist Jonas Šliūpas. After graduating from the Kaunas War School, he studied law at the Vytautas Magnus University. On 15–22 April 1945, while World War II was still ongoing, the Soviet Union organized the 6th tournament of eight cities in Kaunas. Šliūpas was the only team member who played in the EuroBasket 1939. The Lithuanian team won all games except it tied with the Moscow team 25:25. In basketball, free throws or foul shots are unopposed attempts to score points by shooting from behind the free-throw line (informally known as the foul line or the charity stripe), a line situated at the end of the restricted area. Dalstroy
Dalstroy (, ), also known as Far North Construction Trust, was an organization set up in 1931 in order to manage road construction and the mining of gold in the Russian Far East, including the Magadan Region, Chukotka, parts of Yakutia and parts of present-day Kamchatka Krai. Initially it was established as ''General Directorate of Construction in the Far North'' (Главное Управление строительства Дальнего Севера) under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Soviet Union. In 1938 it was placed under the NKVD and in 1945 it was reorganized and renamed. After the 1952 reorganization it was known as ''Main Directorate of Camps and Construction of the Far North''. Stasys Šačkus (September 9, 1907 – November 9, 1985) was a Lithuanian athlete and basketball player. Biography In 1928, he graduated Marijampolė Gymnasium. Later studied humanities studies at Vytautas Magnus University. Stasys actively participated in sport, academic and political life. In 1934, he graduated Department of Physical Education Academy in Berlin. During occupation of Lithuania by Nazi Germany, he was member of Lithuanian Activist Front, participated in June Uprising. He was also a member of the Lithuanian Liberty Army. On October 18, 1945, he was exiled to Siberia by Soviet authorities and imprisoned in Vorkuta Gulag. He later returned to Lithuania. Vincas Sercevičius
Vincas Sercevičius (26 March 1925 – 23 December 2003) was a Lithuanian basketball player and coach. Together with Stepas Butautas, Vytautas Kulakauskas, Justinas Lagunavičius and Kazys Petkevičius, he was considered as one of the finest Lithuanian basketball players during the first post-war decades. Sercevičius played for the center position and had the outstanding ability to shoot the hook shots with both hands, which earned him the nickname of "The Second Lubinas". However, his international career was impeded by his anti-Soviet political record.
