Milwaukee Brewers (1886–1892)
The Milwaukee Brewers (sometimes called the Creams or the Cream Citys) of 1886–1892 were an American professional baseball team and a member of (in order): the Northwestern League, Western Association, American Association, and Western League. Of those leagues, the American Association was considered a major league, while the others were considered minor league. Season records : In 1891, the team withdrew from the Western Association on August 16 to join the American Association. : In 1892, the team disbanded on July 7. Major-league history During the season, the Cincinnati Kelly's Killers dropped out of the American Association (AA) on August 17, and the Brewers (then members of the Western Association) were recruited to finish the season. The following is a history of professional baseball in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, including its current team, the Milwaukee Brewers of Major League Baseball. Overview and legacy Prior to the development of professional baseball, the Cream City Club of Milwaukee—commonly known as the Milwaukee Cream Citys—played in the 1860s and were quite successful. Milwaukee was an early prospect for professional baseball, with several brief experiments at the major league level but mostly in the Minor League Baseball, minor leagues. The National League of Professional Baseball Clubs, known simply as the National League (NL), is the older of two leagues constituting Major League Baseball (MLB) in the United States and Canada, and the world's oldest extant professional team sports league. Founded on February 2, 1876, to replace the National Association of Professional Base Ball Players (NAPBBP) of 1871–1875 (often called simply the "National Association"), the NL is sometimes called the Senior Circuit, in contrast to MLB's other league, the American League, which was founded 25 years later and is called the "Junior Circuit".
